Hi Escoobs, Downloading movies or other large files from newsgroups can be a bit of a pain, but once you have all the right tools it's not that hard really. I'll give you the rundown on how to do this using the tools that I use, but other tools would work just as well. For accesing newsgroups I use Xnews which you can download here: http://download.com.com/3000-2164-10144167.html?tag=lst-0-1 I have been using it for quite a long time, mostly because it support yENC (the newest method for encoding large files for newsgroup posting) and it's decoding is super easy, especially for large files. Once you've set it up with your news server information and accessed the group you want (it's pretty easy, so I won't go in to detail about how to do it, but if you have trouble just ask for a clarification and I can help you out), it's not hard to decode large or small files. Let's say, for instance, that there's a movie called "My Trip To Venice" that's split into six files, Mytrip.000, Mytrip.001, and so on, each posted as a separate message. Tag the messages with the spacebar, and you'll see a number appear in the "Q" field. Once you've tagged all the messages you want to decode, press F4 or click Article->Decode. This now decodes all the messages and saves each of the files into whatever directory you have configured as your save directory. Now in that directory you'll have files Mytrip.000, Mytrip.001, etc. The next tool you'll need is something to combine those files. There are several utilities to do this but I use MasterSplitter, which you can get here: http://download.com.com/3000-2248-9509344.html?tag=lst-0-1 Open MasterSplitter, click the Join tab, and then browse to the directory where the files are saved. Select the Mytrip.001 file and click OK. Then click the Join button, and that's it. It will join the files together to produce Mytrip.avi or whatever the original file is called. From there you can just view the movie, assuming you have the proper codecs. If you're having trouble viewing the video after it's been combined, you might need to get the divx codec from http://www.divx.com. I hope this helps you out. Let me know if this still causes you any trouble. Hibiscus-ga |

Are you aware that what you are doing is illegal? |

Magnesium, even if the majority of people downloaded illegal movies/films from Usenet... you and me both really have no way of knowing if illegal files are being downloaded in this case. Many people make their own media files and upload them to newsgroups. tisme-ga |

make sure the newreader you are using supports "yenc" decoding. If it will not decode that format for you, then us another newsreader(forte agent is the best). Also, download the divx codec from here www.divx.com. The movies may work just by downloading the codec. The truth is, what you are do may or may not be illegal, so dont listen to the others. For all they know, you could just be downloading homemovies that a friend uploaded for you. |

Are you the downloading police magnesium, do you really think that people care it's illegal? The question wasn't whether it was legal or not! |

If there is no provision for payment and no notice that the information is private, my ethics say, have fun down loading. If you intend to resell, that is another matter. The author may be entitled to a share of your sale price. Neil |
