I would like to take an iPOD on an 8 day climb in the backcountry. I
will be using it more the 8 hours, but don’t have any way to recharge
it. I won’t even have a car or any 12volt.

Is there a way to run it off of AA or some other external batteries?

Hi sherpaj,

Here you go - the guy builds the packs by hand upon request, so I hope
you have some time before your hike!

iPod External Charger:
"Run your iPod off/charge your iPod battery with AA batteries!
This product allows you to either run your iPod off eight 'AA'
batteries, or to charge your iPod battery from the batteries. When the
iPod External Charger is connected to your iPod, the iPod treats the
iPod External Charger just as it would your FireWire wall plug
adapter. Changing the batteries in an iPod External Charger is just as
easy as changing the batteries in your TV remote control!"

writes, I just wanted to inform you guys about a product that I'm
developing for the iPod. It is an external battery pack which holds 8
AA batteries, allowing the user to charge his/her iPod when away from
an electrical outlet. I call it 'PodCharge'"
