I want to buy a pair of stereo headphones to play MP3s out of my iPod,
and noticed that there are now many model that feature noise
cancellation. One even claimed to offer better then 20db of
cancellation.

Here are 2 that I saw:

StudioPhonic Hearos Gold 20 series $140
Belkin $80
Sony noise cancelling headphones (MDR-NC5)
Bose QuietComfort Acoustic Noise Canceling Headset: $299
Targus Notebook Noise Reduction Headphones $80

I was wondering:
- Are all the brands using basically the same technology and have
basically the same amount of noise cancellation?
- Does having the noise cancellation messup the music at all?
- Is there one that stands out (in the reviews) and is under $90?
- What about the targus one – Did it get good reviews?

Thanks in dvance

A friend of mine is very pleased with his Maxell noise cancellation
headphones, which he bought for $60. Here are some reviews by users:

pinkfreud-ga, thanks for your input on the sony boombox in my other
question and for the input on this question. The maxcells seems too
flimsy and i can't see how the can cancel much since they don't fully
enclose the ear.

now for what you are talking about might require a litte more money
than you intended. the best i have found that had actual active noise
cancelling technology was the bose quiet comfort 2 headphones. they
came in first in comfort, sound quality and noise cancelling ability.
they are 299.00 at bose.com and are the best thing since sliced bread
for the person on the go. hope this helps with your question
