I am looking for examples of how companies at ground zero
communicated with their employees (voicemails, emails, phonecalls from
CEO, Head of Human Resources, etc.) on September 11th and in the
following weeks. I'm also looking for examples of how companies and
employees responded (chefs who stayed at headquarters for days cooking
for employees who stayed) how Verizon turned its customer service
people into hotlines for victim's familes. In addition, any
articles on Internal Communication (communicating with employees) and
September 11th would be great.

Hi,
Thanks for using Google. You've asked such a touchy question that it
again refreshed my memories of that tragic incident.
Just after this incident, everyone in US came forward to offer any
sort of help they can in terms of food, blood, money or any physical
help to the WTC victims. I searched for the info you are looking for
and found many sites related to this.

There is a tremendous piece of reporting by the New York Times that
just came out this week. It discusses many of the points you are
inquiring about:

“Collected by reporters for The New York Times, these last words give
human form to an all but invisible strand of this stark, public
catastrophe” The article also discusses the efforts of others outside
of the towers.

Chilling stuff.

Chilling article from the American Lawyer magazine titled 91 Emails
from Ground Zero, relates one law firm's experience with an employee
on the ground, just outside the WTC, using his Blackberry to send
emails back and forth all day long. Reads like a mystery, in that you
don't know what happens to all employees till the very end.
