No I do not want to compete with Amazon. Unlike Amazon which serves a
very big market, I just want to concentrate on a "niche"
(specific-particular) market. Like my college students.

I want to make a website on which i want to sell the college text-book
just for my college. And than I will advertise that website in
university and would sell the books cheaper than the college
bookstore.

In short, I just want to sell specific college text-books.

Hi tiptopbaby~

You may wish to review the pricing tips given at this address:

A complete and thorough answer will require some time on the part of a
Researcher, and--respectfully--your price is quite low.

Your price of $2.00 is extremely low for a multi-part question on such a subject.

In my opinon you will have trouble competing with www.amazon.com
unless amazon is about to (or has resently) increased their prices. If
you want three or four copies of a book for your inventory, you can
probably get it cheaper from amazon than from any wholesaler.
Wholesalers give big discounts on large purchases of books and most
every thing else. Last I heard Amazon was selling books so close to
cost, profit was zero on about a billion dollars in sales. You may be
able to buy excessive inventory books at cost from some local book
stores, but they will loose interest quickly if you are very picky
what you buy or fail to give them a check within hours of when they
tell you they have a batch of surplus for you.
Are you going to attempt sell books of all kinds or specialize in a
few kinds of books. Publishers and wholsalers have a wide variety of
policies.

I think nonresearchers such as myself, magnesium and probonopullico
are important to www.google.answers as many questions get no answer,
or deriving the answer from a dozen linkes may be beyond the talants
of the questioner. Also links can have wrong information so another
opinion is occasionaly valuble. Neil

I'm not sure how good a discount you would get for college books,
especially the more specialised ones. You might have to negotiate
separately with each publisher for the books you want. What about
becoming an Amazon affiliate and posting links to the titles on Amazon
on your web site? That way, your students will have the convenience
of having all relevant titles listed, and you will get commission for
their purchases, without going to the expense of setting up a sales
site and having to spend time on dealing with orders.
