It seems that the actual figures for sales in 2002 are not available
(or at least, I couldn't find them!) So I am posting my research as a
comment, however if you feel that my research is acceptable let me
know and I'll post it as an answer.

Given the market snapshots I have listed below, we can say that the US
market size in 2002 was about 5.45 billion dollars.
