Question ID: 188405
I have got lots of picture files in JPG format, stored in a few
directories (around 100 pics per directory, say 50 directories). I
would like to convert these to JPGs, so that they take up less space.
Is there a program out there (ideally freeware, cheap shareware is OK)
that can do the whole lot (or a folder-full) at a time, with the click
of a button (or two).

Further: I use Windows.

More further: question isn't priced high, 'cos I imagine that a
researcher out there might just know the answer. Not really
interested in a search strategy either.

Hi there,

The best free / shareware program for viewing images and making
conversions is IrfanView. I just tested it and it is very good at
doing batch conversions.

"IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for
non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP."

Search strategy: I use it every day

Check out Irfanview - http://www.irfanview.com/

It's a good batch processing utility and it's free for home use. I'm
pretty sure it will do a batch conversion from BMP to JPG.

Also, check out GraphicConverter www.lemkesoft.de I think there is a
Windows version. Converts everything to everything - shareware
