Hello dbky1,

I sensed urgency in your question so lets try this as a solution.

I am sticking around in case this does not work for you, please let me
know as soon as possible. In the meantime I am going to continue with
some further research until I hear back from you.

"Solution 1
Open the image in Adobe Photoshop 5.0 or later and save it as an EPS
graphic, deselecting PostScript Color Management in the EPS Options
dialog box. Then, replace the image in the Illustrator document with
the EPS graphic.

Note: EPS format is not recommended for non-PostScript printers
because only the 72 dpi screen preview of an EPS graphic prints.

Solution 2
Open a copy of the placed image in Photoshop and then convert the
color mode to grayscale by choosing Image > Mode > Grayscale. Save the
image and replace it in the Illustrator document.

Solution 3
Save the Illustrator document as an EPS graphic, open or place the EPS
graphic in another application (e.g., Adobe PageMaker), and then print
it."

Are you printing to a black and white printer? Does solution 2 solve
the problem at all?

I would like to know what versions of Photoshop and AI you are
running. What operating system? What printer model?

If you are using Photoshop 5 or later, try this:

"Photoshop 5.0 and later includes an Export Transparent Image
Assistant to help you create transparency in images for use in page
layout applications and on the Web. To access the Assistant, choose
Help > Export Transparent Image and then follow the instructions."

Try saving the file as a GIF and a PNG file to see if the problem goes
away. You can also try opening up the GIF file with another program
such as Internet Explorer and then printing it. (Dragging the GIF to
Internet Explorer should open it).

Have you ever called Adobe Support before? If not, then you probably
still have your free support available.

To start the complimentary support period, register your Adobe product
online. Then just dial the technical support number for the Adobe
product you own. The length of the complimentary support period
depends on whether your Adobe product is a Level I or Level II product
(1) and whether it's a first-time purchase or an upgrade (2) to an
Adobe product you already own.

I have AI 10, PS 7. I am on XP and have a HP 4135. option 2 did not
work, it lost the transparent back ground. I have had the best luck
with the export wizard. It looks like the G-artist went to bed and all
upset. I am trying to have this all fixed by mid day tomorrow. Adobe
is not sure why, they keep saying it is either in AI or PS. Still
plugging away at it though.

Hello dbky1,

Is there anyway that you can try a different printer? I was discussing
this with Microsoft Technical support and they said that the printer
is more than likely the cause of the problem. Is there anyway you can
connect a different printer and try to print this? I have determined
that your printer is not listed in the Windows XP Hardware
Compatibility List and has therefore not been properly tested and
verified to work with Windows XP. I am still trying to contact HP to
figure our if they have any known problems with this printer and
AI/Photoshop.
