I'm working for a company whose product is used by people who suffer
active sports injuries, and I'm trying to figure out some smart way of
comparing the number of sports injuries in the USA to those in the UK
and Germany.

The kind of sports would be active sports such as football, rugby,
running, tennis, squash, etc. Not "inactive" sports like golf.

I would like you to find some hard data on the number of sports
injuries in the US vs UK and Germany. Ideally, the numbers should be
comparable and from the same organisation, for example the WHO
(who.int)

If you can't find this number, let me know. I might be willing to
consider proxies for sports injuries.

Since the USA has a larger population we would expect more injuries.
Sixty years ago when I was a child, unsupervised sports were common. I
think they are rare now unless you want to count gang fights, race
war, drug territory battles, car theifts etc as sports. You perhaps
unwisely excluded golf. The steel club shafts occassionly attract
lightening strikes. Occasionally golfers become so angry they hit
themselves or others with a golf club and a fast golf ball can kill.
Baseball may have lost it's first place, but foot ball and basketball
are still growing or holding their own, both amature and prophesional.
Swimming, diving, ice skating, ice hockey, track and field events,
Karati, ti quon do and other marshal arts are still significant and
produce some injuries. Do you consider hiking, camping, jogging,
weight lifting, wrestling, boxing, bicyling, sex, dancing, horse
racing, car racing, foot racing for charity etc sports? I haven't a
clue on Germany or UK. Neil

Tennis, sailboating, handball, socker, vollyball, and bowling are
still significant in the USA, but not polo, rugby, squash. I think
high liegh, and intensity games are played only professionly. Please
explain "proxies for sports injuries" Neil

The product is a medical product for treating knee cartilage injuries.
By proxies for sports injuries, I was thinking of sales of sports
rehabilitation equipment and medical equipment used in sports
injuries.
I need the answer quickly as my report is due tomorrow; if you can't
answer the question within the next couple of hours it won't be useful
to me (I am in London and it is 21.23 now--I will be working till
23.00)
