Question ID: 188889
gnuChess program in RH 7.1 seems smarter than the same gnuChess
program in RedHat 8.0.

I like to port the older chess program from 7.1 to 8.0. Would like to
know where to find the source code and how to compile it under RH 8.0.

Please advice.

Hi,

After doing some searching on the GNU Chess version that was available
with RedHat 7.1, most sites reported it as using v4.0 Patchlevel 80
(current version is 5.06)

The tarball is available at:

http://www.tim-mann.org/gnuchess/gnuchess-4.0.pl80.tar.gz

A source rpm is available at:

http://www2.linuxforum.net/RPM/redhat/7.1/en/os/i386/RedHat/RPMS/gnuchess-4.0.pl80-6.i386.html

Once you get the tarball

1.) tar -xzvf gnuchess-4.0.pl80.tar.gz
2.) cd src
3.) make ; make install

And that should install the older version of the program for you.

Thanks,
