I recently toured the Three Gorges Dam project on the Yangtze river in China. Their plan is to start filling the huge reservoir on June 1, 2003. It is supposed to fill (to the desired level) by June 15. I'd like to view the "filling" at several different locations along the river. Can you identify several webcams that will be active during the "fill-time". |

Apart from Hong Kong, an initial search only found 1 webcam within China, and none from any of the top webcam directories. Knowing China and the Internet, they probably aren't allowed. |

I guess that nobody has come up with the idea of putting a web cam there. The local government would have no problems with that. The filling up has already started. This is what the official newsagency Xinhua wrote on April 10: [quote] "Dam begins to store water Yichang: The Three Gorges Dam has begun to store water naturally since the temporary ship lock was closed Wednesday night, said a representative from the Yangtze River Three Gorges Project Development Corporation Thursday. The water level at the dam will reach 80 meters in 20 days from the current 70.14-meter height. The level is scheduled to hit 135 meters on June 15. [end quote] The best there is you can find at http://www.threegorgesprobe.org/tgp/index.cfm They offer news and pictures, but no webcam. Cheers, Fons |
