The Storage Networking Industry Association has some information related to your question. While it pertains to the worldwide data storage market, the following graph is a useful picture of data storage needs for the past few years. http://www.snia.org/English/Collaterals/Presentations/19990318_Getting_Connected/Robert_Gray/sld002.htm This slide points to the past and projected costs of storage in the US http://www.snia.org/English/Collaterals/Presentations/19990318_Getting_Connected/Nick_Allen/sld010.htm |

Some historical numbers: According to Strategic Research Corp (in March of 2000), corporate storage per user company had been growing 44% a year. http://www.itworld.com/Comp/2884/ITWhrd-idgns-0327/ According to this Byte Graphic http://www.byte.com/art/9509/img/505089i2.htm Corporate storage growth a few years earlier was 50% a year. Interestingly enough, current articles indicate that the primary driver for storage is the billions of e-mails sent every day. |
