Im looking for an e-commerce solution that 1) has a shopping cart
that provides integration with a payment processing service
(preferably PayPal), 2) manages user access to areas of the site on a
subscription basis and 3) can trigger document delivery (or send a
protected link via e-mail) to customers by using the PayPal IPN
feature. Preferred solution would be PHP/MySQL based. The closest
thing that I have found is dotWidget for PayPal
http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/15265.html (only $29), which has
both the payment processing integration and document delivery (i.e.
either automatically send file by e-mail or send a masked link)
features AND which gets high user reviews. I don't think it has the
ability to manage subscriptions. Though I could have a separate
solution for subscription management, an integrated approach would be
preferable. I don't want anything that is over $100. I had such good
luck with this board the first time around. Thanks in advance for your
suggestions!!! |

Hello svannes,
I think I may know just the right solution for you. It requires a
little bit of reading to install, and requires PHP/MySql. You may have
to customize some features, but it is FREE. (Open source and stable;-)
Is this something you would be interested in?
Thanks,

Great -
I think OSCommerce is your best bet -
http://www.oscommerce.com
It has the Paypal IPN you are seeking, and a huge network of
programmers contributing to the project.

It's actually customers that register. I assume this is what you mean
by subscriptions? If not, you can simply modify the sign-up code to
out new customers in a 'wait status' until they meet your desired
criteria.
Let me know your thoughts -

Almost forgot - This software has hundreds of add-ons from users, to include:
Dowload managers
Dowload billing managers
Different Payment Gateways (2Checkout, AuthorizeNet etc...)
Too many to list here. You can see some of them here:

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure if that's the solution that I need
or not. By "subscription management" I mean that I would like the
application manage a user's permission to gain access to a web based
application that I have developed. This solution would accept payment
from a client and then allow that user to use the web application for
a finite period of time (determined by the length of the subscription
purchased). Do you know if osCommerce supports this type of feature
or if someone has developed this functionality as an add on? If not,
it would appear that osCommerce would be no better than dotWidget
(with the exception that osCommerce is free).

I don't think it can be used out of the box in the capacity you want.
I'll keep looking, and leave this open for other Researchers to give
it a shot.
Thanks!
