Hello Dear:
It was very interesting to find the information for you. My purpose
was to make the trip as easy for you and possibly without too many
connections.
As you said you can start from any point in DE, I was able to plan an
itinerary from Wilmington, Dover. Wilmington, DE acts as a hub of
Delaware for Amtrak on many journeys North and South Bound.
Its a three step train journey.
Wilmington, DE (Amtrak) to Trenton, NJ>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Trenton, NJ (NJ
Transit) to Rahway, NJ>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rahway, NJ (NJ Transit) to
Hazlet, NJ.
(STEP 1) You can take the Amtrak from Wilmington, DE to Trenton, NJ on
almost 10 different (daily) train services. The one way ticket is $41.
You can either buy a ticket on the station or get it online. Log onto
http://www.amtrak.com and click on 'reservations' on the left hand
side menu. Type in your desired stations i.e. Wilmington, DE and
Trenton, NJ. PLEASE LEAVE THE RETURN DATE EMPTY, as you need one way.
* Trains leave every hour. Itinerary time is approximately 50 minutes.
(STEP 2) The Amtrak train will arrive at Amtrak/NJ Transit Train
station in Trenton.
You can get on NJ Transit from the station. Take a ticket to Hazlet,
NJ (two connections, also see step three) which costs about $9.80 and
may be less on weekends. You can also get the ticket from vending
machines (9 vending machines for NJ transit on this station).
Get off the train at Rahway, NJ. Please see map of NJ Transit to
better understand http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/Rail_Map_09_2002.pdf or
log onto http://www.njtransit.com
(STEP 3) Take the connecting train to Hazlet, NJ (North Jersey Coast
Line). (you don't have to get the ticket again).
* The NJ Transit runs frequently on both lines.
I hope this will help. You can also plan a return trip easily on the
same route if you need to. If you dont understand anything, please
clarify. I will help you. Thanks.
Sincerely,
leader-ga. |

This is a way i had already looked into. I am hoping for a route with
fewer connnections via train; preferably something involving Nj
transit bus service. i mentioned before that i attempted to use that
website as it listed areas in Delware, but it became complicated and
confusing. Anything with fewer than three steps is preferable. I thank
you for your interest and help with my question. I hope this helps to
clarify.

Perhaps, even, driving to somewhere in southern jersey (not past exit
3) to say, Glassboro, and take a train/bus from there to Hazlet. I
really don't want to take a connection bus, to be perfectly honest,
because i have never done it before.

Hello chichiamorucho-ga:
I have done research on your request but it seems that there is a very
liitle or no chance of you getting to Hazlet, NJ without getting more
than two connections. The only way to do it will be to go to Newark,
NJ on either Grey Hound or Amtrack and take NJ Transit from there.
As far as my research shows there are three major mode of
transportation in New jersey i.e. Amtrack, NJ Transit and Grey Hound
and local MTA.
For Amtrack, it only serves the west coast. If you choose grey hound,
it serves the following areas:
Allendale, Atlantic City, Camden, Caldridge, East Orange,
Hackettstown, Hohokus, Mahwah, Mt. Larel, Newark, Panther Valley,
Paramus, Ramsey, Show Boat,
Ridgewood, Sands, Somerville and Trenton.
Taking into account the NJ transit, it serves following on the east
coast:
Aberdeen, Allenhurst, Asbury Park, Avenel, Bay Head, Bell Mar, Bradley
Beach, Elberon, Elizebeth, Hazlet, Hoboken, Linden, Little Silver,
Long Branch, Manasquan, Middle Town, Monmouth Park, Newark , North
Elizebeth, Perth Emboy, Point Pleasant, Rahway, Red bank, South Amboy,
Woodbridge and Spring Lake.
Considering the above situation, the only reasonable point of
connection between grey hound, amtrack and Nj transit is Newark.
If there was a station that was close to Hazlet on Grey Hound (which
there are few), you could have taken a local bus to Hazlet. My
research shows that MTA might take two or more connections to get to
Hazlet.
We have to choices, (1) take NJ transit or grey hound to newark and
than take NJ transit South bound to Hazlet.
(2) Take Grey Hound to somewhere near Hazlet and than take the local
buses to Hazlet (might be 2 or more connections).
Let me know which will suit you.
Many Thanks.

Why, if nj transit only serves those areas in new jersey, does it list
these following areas in Delaware: Claymont, clayton, Hockessin,
middleton, Newark, townsend, Wilmington, Yorklyn, Smyrna? These were
listed on the site. Also, you said that greyhound goes to areas around
hazlet? what were these?
