What kind of KVM are you using? Does it do some sort of PS/2 to USB conversion?

I checked several of the mice you listed, but all of them support USB.
I'm trying to find an older version of the IntelliMouse that
terminates in a PS/2 connector, not a USB connector. The current ones
are all USB, but come with an adapter.

I can't figure out how to clarify my question, so I will respond to
alexander's question here.

I am using a Linksys 8-port KVM with PS/2 inputs. If I use a USB
mouse with a USB-to-PS/2 converter, it will work on my PCs, but not my
macs (the left-button constantly click and the pointer flies around
randomly). Come to think of it, I would be even happier with figuring
out a way to use my current USB IntelliMouse Explorer with my macs.

Hi Rcorell,

Thanks for your clarification. I've read your question and I'm aware
that you don't want an Intellimouse that uses an adaptor. However, I
answered your question because I'm also aware that there are mice in
the market that ends with two ports, both for USB and PS2. What I mean
is similar to this illustration:

USB/PS2
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/keyboard/images/usb_ps2.jpg

A description in one link of my answer clearly says:

"Cable has PS2 and USB ports for versatile connectivity with Windows
PC or Macintosh computer systems"

This mouse doesn't use an adaptor and you can plug it directly to the
PS2 or USB port -- whichever you need. It may be possible that is only
when using an adaptor do you have a problem. However, for this mouse,
it's a different situation. The connection is fully integrated in the
hardware so the weird performance is unlikely to exist. Here's the
link I mentioned earlier:

Knowledge Micro Express, Inc.
MICROSOFT INTELLIMOUSE EXPLORER 3.0 OPTICAL MOUSE (1-PACK)
Price: $23.00
http://www.knowledgemicro.com/detail.php?p=SYSINTEXP&c=pw

You can contact the dealer or all the suppliers in the links I gave
you so that you can verify this. They may even be able to point you to
a specific dealer (not posted in the Internet) that may have the
Intellimouse that ends with PS2 only. You can also check Microsoft for
specific features of this product.

Microsoft.com
MICROSOFT WHEEL OPTICAL INTELLIMOUSE (5 BUTTONS) - Product Information
page
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/imo_info.asp

With regards to your current Intellimouse, is it possible that the
weird performance is caused by incompatibility with the Mac OS? Here
are the system requirements

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR INTELLIMOUSE EXPLORER
For a Macintosh-based computer:
Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x
Mac OS X – 10.1 to 10.1.3 (excluding 10.0)
15 MB of available hard-disk space
An available USB port
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/ie_req.asp

You can explore other links inside the Microsoft page or contact
Microsoft Support on that page for information on how to solve your
current problem. On my part, I'll look for the Microsoft mouse that
exactly fits your criteria.

Best regards,
Feilong

I found these using a new search string. Please contact the supplier
for further details and in order to verify the product:

MS wheelmouse Optical PS2 (oem ) $18
MS Intellimouse Optical PS2 (oem / retail ) $48/75

This link, based on Google result description, has intellimouse

I purchased the first mouse you linked after my clarification
(Knowledge Micro Express, Inc.) and it still used a PS/2 to USB
converter. Despite that, the mouse worked with my system. I no
longer need a PS/2 only mouse.
Do you feel that I should still pay for this answer? What I wanted
was for someone else to do the research and give me a link to a PS/2
mouse. That has not transpired, but the larger problem is solved.

I have already asked for the removal of my answer but it seems that
request has not been granted. You can, instead, request for a refund

much.

Greetings, rcorell!

It looks as though the Optical Intellimouse to which Researcher
feilong-ga has pointed you operates EITHER as PS/2 or USB:
"PS/2 or USB
Two connection options give you ultimate flexibility. Connects to
**either** a round PS/2 port or a rectangular Universal Serial Bus
(USB) port for plug-and-play convenience."
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse/imo_info.asp

It looks like you should be just fine with a PS/2 connection.

Best Wishes,

You have not understood my request.

I wanted a PS/2 *ONLY* mouse...one that only has a PS/2 connector,
not a USB connector. I desired a mouse that could not plug into a USB
slot, one that did not terminate in a USB connector. I believed that
the USB to PS/2 converter was causing my problem. Feilong claimed to
have found a mouse with two *parallel* plugs--one for USB and one for
PS/2; that is, a mouse with two physical termination points on the
cable. I was willing to try that. Instead, the mouse I received is
just like every other one. It ends in USB and uses the very same
adapter that I thought was the problem to attach with.

I could easily go anywhere to buy a USB mouse with a PS/2 converter.
I own three already. What I wanted was--and I quote my original
request here--"a Microsoft 5-button optical mouse for PS/2 *only*".

I happen to have been mistaken. The mouse I got actually works even
with the adapter. I therefore no longer want a PS/2 only mouse. But
if I had been correct, I would have had to return the mouse and then
do my own research. That's not what I thought I was paying for.

The money is not really an issue, I'd be happy to pay it and never
use Google answers again.
