made in his youth about not being willing to  fight in WWII alongside

Rather than repeat the hateful words that Senator Robert Byrd wrote
during WWII, I'll instead point you to pages that contain the quote. I

Good Lord, what a rotter.

Maybe this explains that old Southern phrase "Well, I'll be a dirty Byrd."
