Hello ollie455-ga,
I checked the Google Answers database for your user name. This is the
only question of yours thatis present.
I have found two articles, both in Spanish, with information about
SARS in Ecuador on the web site of the Arizona Republic. These are
from a special Spanish Language service of Associated Press and no
English translations are available. One of these is about the case in
Guayaquil http://www.azcentral.com/spanish/latin-america/articles/latin-america_65992.html
(Associated Press 04/11/2003) The SARS case in Guayaquil is a
Peruvian citizen, who was taken off an aircraft, en route from New
York to Lima, with symptoms of atypical pneumonia. This person has
been confirmed to have SARS and is currently in a coma. He is a
65-year-old with existing lung cancer.
The second article at
http://www.azcentral.com/spanish/health/articles/health_3510.html
(Associated Press 04/12/2003) reports a second case, suspected of
being SARS, in Quito. The patient, who is of Asian origin, had
returned from an unspecified location in Asia.
However, no link has been suggested between these two cases.
The WHO (World Health Organization) publishes updates of areas
affected by SARS, where "affected" is defined as "an area in which
local chain(s) of transmission of SARS is/are occurring as reported by
the national public health authorities."
The update for April 14 lists the following areas, which do not
include Ecuador:
Country Area
Canada Toronto
Singapore Singapore
China Beijing, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Shanxi, Taiwan
Province*
United States of America Areas not reported*
United Kingdom London*
Viet Nam Hanoi
where * is "Area with limited local transmission and no evidence of
international spread from area since 15 March 2003 and no transmission
other than close person-to-person contact reported."

Hello again ollie455,
I was wondering whether you need a translation of the article about
the second case, at http://www.azcentral.com/spanish/health/articles/health_3510.html
The translation of the article starts as follows:

The Associated Press

QUITO An Asiatic inhabitant of the city has been admitted to
hospital with symptoms of atypical pneumonia, as confirmed to
Associated Press on Saturday by a medical spokesman.

the Cardiology Unit, on account of cardiac complications.
One person of Asiatic origins is in hospital with symptoms of SARS
was the confirmation given to AP by a source from the public hospital
Eugenio Espejo of Quito city. The source did not wish to be
identified.
