As long as you are transferring from one reputable registrar to
another reputable registrar, you should not have any problems.

Which one are you thinking of leaving and where are you thinking
of moving the domain? That will give researchers a better sense
of what you might be facing.

Hi Denco,
I will transfer domains from NetworkSolutions.com,
NameBargain.com(Register.com), Alldomains.com, DomainBank.net, Alice's
Registry (ar.com), RegistrationTek.com and BB-online.co.uk to
GoDaddy.com or some other cheap registrar.
They are all ICANN accredited and some are reviewed by Truste.org. Is
it enough? How can I be sure that registrar is trustworthy? Is there
any independent organization where I can check that?
Regards
nikenn

Hi there, nikenn!

It is very fortunate that we have organizations such as Icann [
http://www.icann.org ] that exist to provide a "safe haven" for the
consumer where they can go for dispute resolution and domain registrar
information.
The domain system would probably be total chaos otherwise!

I immediately searched Google with the term "icann accredited
site:icann.org" to quickly locate the official documents on the Icann
website related to accreditation.

From the main overview page [
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation.htm ], I was able to
find out exactly what a domain registrar needs to do to become a
member.

As well as submitting a non-refundable fee of $2500, the potential
registrar must include detailed company information such as the list
of directors and other employees or persons owning 5% or more of the
"business entity".
The amount of data they must submit is astonishing and comforting, I
suggest you take a look:
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation-application.htm .
The company must also be financially stable:
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation-financials.htm .
For a complete overview of the process, see the URL below.
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation-process.htm

If you are unfortunate to be involved in a dishonest action by a
registrar, Icann and Internic provide full resolution services and
tend to act in the best interests of the consumer.
To complain about a registrar, visit this page:
http://www.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cgi

As the above page states though, you should always attempt to contact
the registrar first to resolve the issue.

The full list of Icann Accredited registrars with contact information
(last updated: 3rd June 2002):
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accreditation-qualified-list.html

The full list (simplified):
http://www.icann.org/registrars/accredited-list.html

I hope that the above information helps you to feel more comfortable
about your domain transfers and the companies involved, I certainly do
after researching this!
Regards,
errol-ga.

I have used all the cheap registrars, and the only one I would not
recommend is Stargate - their system seems to be falling apart at the
seams. GoDaddy and RegisterFly are both very good.
