Please find whatever information you can on my great aunt, Carla
Dagmar ("Daggy") Edman who apparently was a headliner at the Moulin
Rouge in Paris in July,1910. We have a beautiful colored poster
announcing the show and it is signed "Daggy" and dated "Julliet,
1910". Our family has always believed that she was a fairly well know
opera singer, but the Moulin Rouge isn't opera. I contacted the
information person at the Moulin, but she told me their archives
burned down in 1916, so she could not help. Where and when did "Daggy"
appear and what sort of songs/arias did she sing? She was born in
Sweden. She spoke several languages fluently. In her later years, she
lived at the Madison Square Garden Hotel in NYC. She died in about
1952, but I have been unable to locate a death certificate.

Hi Relling,

I wasn't able to find any more information than this so I am not
putting this as an answer. Perhaps one of my colleagues who has access
to a special database may be able to help you and provide you an
answer that is worthy of your given price.

"Carla Dagmar studied singing in Paris but made her professional
operatic in her native Sweden in March 1892. She made her first London
appearance in a single performance as Papagena in Il Flauto Magico at
the Olympic, November 3, 1892. Between 1893 and 1895 she appeared
frequently in grand opera at Drury Lane (The Bohemian Girl, Carmen, La
Juive, Die Walkure, Cavalleria Rusticana, Faust) and Covent Garden
(Carmen, Faust, Romeo et Juliette, Die Walkure). At the close of the
1895 opera season in London she toured the British provinces before
returning to Paris for the winter.

In June 1896 she was engaged by the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company to play
Julia Jellicoe in The Grand Duke on tour (sharing the part with
Adeline Vaudrey with Carte’s Company “E”) and at the Savoy (where she
filled in during matinees for Ilka von Pàlmay that month). After June
1896 she no longer appeared with the D’Oyly Carte organization."

Thank you feilong-ga; very fascinating. of course we would like to
learn more about "Daggy" , especially appearances in Paris and at the
Moulin Rouge in
particular, certainly your information is worth some part of the $100.
perhaps you can involve the colleague with the special data base and
share the
fee.
                                                   sincerely,

Thanks for the clarification. As I said, I searched the Internet but I
can't find no more than the details I found and posted in my
clarification regarding your dear aunt "Daggy". Even though I spent
quite a long while on the research, I know that the information I gave
is not worth the $100 you're willing to pay that's why I didn't post
it as an answer. It's meant to aid my colleagues who might want to
take a stab at your question so that they know where I searched, and
also as a customer service for you.

Regarding special database, I really am not sure who has access to
one. I was hoping that there is a colleague who has access to a
special kind of database and who can continue where I left. I hope you
understand that info from the past is often not posted on the Internet
unless it's a major historical event. For the meantime, you can leave
this question open so that others can try. I'll also search other
offline referencesand see what I can find.

Now, if ever no one can add anything significant and you want to
accept the info I gave you as an answer, I suggest you post another
question with a lower price addressed to me. It's your choice. Thank
you.

          best,
