Question ID: 19130
Where can I get information on licensing indices published by Credit
Suisse First Boston (CSFB)? I am looking for daily index values for
their Global High Yield, High Yield Bond, and Convertibles indices. I
am actually trying to find the name and number for a human contact who
I can discuss a licensing agreement with.

I am *not* looking for publicly published index values or returns
(like you might find on Yahoo! Finance or another financial news
site), since I would not be licensed to offer that data as part of a
service my company provides.

I have searched CSFB's web site (as well as their other corporate
sites), but cannot figure out what department I need to contact or
even the name of a sales rep who can discuss licensing with me. Most
of the info on their sites is related to investment management.

Perhaps they outsource calculation and publishing of their indices to
a third-party (e.g., the Russell 2000 is actually calculated by Bridge
Information Systems), but I can't even find any information on that.

Thanks in advance for your help, folks!

Good news for you, I called their Main Headquarters in New York, NY at
212-325-2000 and spoke to their customer service representatives at
length.
After some transferring and them trying to figure out what you wanted
exactly, they gave me the number of their equity research department which
handles all of their indicies and licensing/sale of. This number is
212-325-4089 and when I called it, they were probably out to lunch, as I
was
directed to their answering machine. You can leave a message for them
there,
and they will get back to you by the end of the day, or youc an e-mail
them
your request at equity.research@csfb.com. I also checked their website for
further information and found this on their FAQ page (link below):

"How can I receive a research report produced by CSFB?

CSFB research reports are made available to customers and clients. To
receive a research report, please contact your Credit Suisse First Boston
sales representative. If you are not currently a customer or client of
CSFB
and would like to purchase a research report, please e-mail
equity.web@csfb.com with your name, company, and telephone number and
specify the company/industry of interest."

Although the two e-mails I got from the CS rep and the website are
different, I'm sure both get redirected to the same department. The CS
representative told me that you should ask for the head of the department
to
dicuss licensing agreements over CSFB information specifically, but that
is
the same number (ask whoever picks up and they'll redirect you). Good
luck!

Sorry the formatting's all messy, I copy/pasted it from my text editor
and it stuck in carriage returns where they were on screen instead of
carrying them as full lines.

The Researcher found exactly what I was looking for and gave me
several leads to follow up on. Even if the leads do not pan out, the
effort and the information is worth the rating and the cash.
