I understand Travel Agencies have access to information in regard to
the age and condition of various motels and hotels in the United
States.

Is this type of information available on the internet, with no
password, and free to the public?

Greetings Clicker5:

While I could not locate such a database online, it may well exist for
use with a password and another Researcher may have more success in
locating it. It's most probably a collection of websites exclusively
for travel agents. However, if you want to locate building dates,
simply search Google for

hotel motel "built in"

and you will receive search results as shown at
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=hotel+motel+%22built+in%22.
To tweak that, look at the bottom of the Google results page for the
link "Search within these results" and enter the name of the lodging
establishment there. Google will search the search results for
matches - I entered "Holiday Inn" (with quotation marks) and Google
returned all mentions of Holiday Inn within those results
(://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=hotel+motel+%22built+in%22&as_q=%22Holiday+Inn%22).
Further tweak by searching in those results for a city or state name.
This way you can drill down easier than having to read thousands of
link descriptions.

Of course, a business or person would have had to post the information
online for you to locate it there but if you are looking for
construction dates, that's a fairly solid way of discovering them.

Is there a particular lodging establishment about which you seek
specifications?

Hello journalist-ga:
There is no particular lodging I am interested at this time.
My wife and I travel a lot, and we always wonder about age and
condition of various hotels and motels when we call ahead to make
reservations.
We always have the latest AAA book, and find their description lacking
in adequate detail as to age and condition. A few times we have been
disappointed with the AAA book.

My wife and I use cheap ($45) motels in the Orlando, Florida area
occasionaly. Any more than 40 years old have extensively renovated.
Typically they are clean, and adequit. I think you get very little
extra when you pay double or more. Neil
