Looking for a program that will capture video from a demo of a popular
computer game (Counterstrike/Half Life) ? Or something that will
capture video from an application called "GeekPlay". Can anyone
provide suggestions, or is there an application that will capture the
activity on my computer screen into video format (prefferably
*.mpg)....Thanx

Hello,
I've found two programs that match what you're looking for. They are
shareware (free trial for some days). The only problem is that if you
want to record video from a game, you will need a *really* fast
computer. They work better for recording the desktop (for example, for
recording demonstrations). These are the links to the recommended
programs:
SnagIt
http://www.techsmith.com/defaultflash.asp
HyperCam
http://www.hyperionics.com/hc/index.asp
They will save an AVI video file, you can later convert it to mpeg by
using a free mpeg encoder such as TMPegEnc. If this is what you're
looking for, please tell me so I can post the links as the answer.
Best regards,
elamarto

I realize you said you wanted something that would generate an .mpg
format, but if you are just looking to grab a still screenshot of one
frame of activity I can tell you how to do that without any special
software. This method will actually save it as a .bmp but you can
change the format to some other picture extension if you like (such as
.jpg or .gif).

i will need something to capture the activity on the screen....the
application, called geekplay, doesnt save any info other than a *.dem
file, and all that does is open the *.exe file for
half-life/counterstrike, then shows all the actions performed by the
player (all the movements, kills, scores...)...so i will need
something not tooo resource hog-ish. i do not want single
screenshots, as we know how to perform this action easily...i need to
capture a full 2-7 minute gaming session, then be able to cut it up
and combine it with other gaming sessions.
