The paper I found on Marxism and the family can be viewed at
http://www.sbc.edu.hk/sbc-kcw/KWOK.htm.
This paper,by Kwok Chi Wai, talks about a shift that occurred in the
family structure in China in the 1900's with the advent of Marxism.
This change culminated in 1959 with the Marriage Law of the People's
Republic of China which was based more equal rights than male
dominance...a Marxist idea. However, although women made real strides
in having equal rights the males never completely gave up the dominant
position.
To quote the paper:
"Finally, as we evaluate Marxist theory, we can find that in reality
socialist revolution has not led to the abolition in family life in
China, even in Russia. Further, there is no real equality between
sexes in socialist society, even though the women come closer to
achieving equality with men socially, educationally, and
occupationally. Marxist perspective has the limitation in a sense that
what they predict in these aspects has not come true."
Hope this paper is of relevance and help in writing your essay.
