Hello,
I have win xp pro with two administrator accounts. If I want to prevent
access to some folder I have to make this folder private or/and
encrypted and then create account password that appear on welcome
screen.
Does windows has possibility to prevent access to folder without
password on welcome screen. If I forget password and if I don't have
password reset disk created by windows, is there any way to log on on
this account. If it's possible, then encryption don't have any sense
here because if someone can log on as me he can also read encrypted
folders.Explanation could be that it is possible to circumvent
password but data will remain in encrypted form.Is it truth and how
much is this protection strong if I use only «private foler» or only
«encrypted folder».
What I have to do (in windows) that my private or encrypted folders
stay unaccessible in any way.Is it better to use some other security
software like DriveCrypt.
Can you recommend me some freeware or shareware software. What is your
opinion about DriveCrypt and is there any independent review of this
software. Is encryption suitable for image files and can it damage
images.

It seems to me a little pointless to have an encrypted documents
folder in Windows XP if using to Administrator Group Users. By having
an Administrator account you would be able to log in through either
and change the others password this therefore would make encryption
pointless. If you are wanting to use encryption and implement it a
little better you need to be using NTFS and then use the encryption.
Then through the policy editor in windows XP found through I think
"start---->>Run----->>>gpedit.msc"
Once this is done then implement a strong password policy on your
machine.

If you are needing stronger encryption please let me know what type of
machine you are using and what you require encryption for, as the
software market for encryption products varies greatly for example if
you need to encrypt 2GB in one session you would probably be best to
choose a different package than a 2kb file.
