Question ID: 192854
Some where I read there is a new utility that identifies drivers that
are delaying computer shutdown. It seems that some drivers "hangup"
and cause problems. What is the name of this utility?

Can you give a clue as to where you read about this utility? In a
recent magazine or a web page? I asked so this can facilitate locating
it. Thanks.

Hi, lucyfur-ga:

What operating system are you using (or interested in as the target of
this utility)? And what kind of computer, eg. laptop or desktop?

Windows 98 is fairly notorious for such problems, and Microsoft
recommends a trial-and-error approach (disabling drivers one at a time
until the shutdown problem is solved).

dunno why, but a tech support person told me to do this before. Delete
all of your history and temporarly folders, easier to do disk cleanup.
(start>programs>accessories>systemTools>DiskCleanup) make sure
everything is checked and it will delete all of the files that you do
not need
hope this works, no guarantee

Generally there is no software to test the reasons for slow shutdown,
mostly it is caused by Antivirus Softwares.

A good way of finding the software that slows the pc is to remove
loading of various programs startups one by one and then checking
system performance.

you can do this by typing "msconfig" in the Run command on windows
startup menu
and then remaove the check mark from different startpup entries.
