Hello Bill4538,

In Canada registration is basically a title system for the ownership
of ships. It is similar in nature to title systems applicable to land
registry. Registration is mandatory for every ship that exceeds 15
gross tons. Ships not required by law to be registered may do so on a
voluntary basis. Registration allows for name approval, mortgage
registration, protection of the Crown. There are approx. 46,500 ships
on Register totaling 4.7 million gross tons.

I located a Canadian Vessel Registration Search Tool. This system
allows you to browse and give you the possibility to create advance
queries on Canadian registered ships. It is updated on a weekly
basis.

You can search for a ship's official number or by name, or use the
advanced search page which permits searching on a wider variety of
attributes such as owner name, IMO number, length, tonnage, year
built, builder name or builder country.

Would this be the information you’re looking for?

Thanks

bobbie7,

Thank you for your quick response. I would like to do a title search
on a vessel already registered in Canada. I am looking for
information as to previous owners of the vessel, are there any liens
on the vessel, has the vessel been Coast Guard Documented, all in
advance of purchasing the vessel. I laready know that the vessel is
registered as I have the registration number. The information I want
is much like doing a title search on a home, car etc. before purchase.
 Thanks for your help.

Bill4538,

It appears that the resource I found is what you require.

Would you like me to post it as the official answer or verify it for
you first?

In order to verify it I would need the registration number.

I would then to do the search myself and post the type of information
I obtained – not the actual information.

Subsequently, if you consider the information I obtain from the search
satisfactory, I would post the URL to Canadian Vessel Registration
Search Tool along with my search strategy as the official answer to
your question.

Please let me know what you decide.

Thanks
Bobbie7-ga
