happy Easter to you, chillins!

I was thinking that you GARs need a theme song but I can't remember
the title of this one. it's a song from the 60s or 70s and in the
Temps, OJays, Spinners, Whispers vein. it may have been covered
since, but I'm looking for the original group's rendition. the chorus
goes "you got, you got, you got what I need. you got, you got, you
got what I want." recognize it? granny's drawing a complete blank.

feel free to nominate your own suggestions for a GAR theme song if you like.

thanks a bunch,
granny

Hi Granny!

So far, I've had no luck finding a clip or the lyrics.

It's on his 1982 "Live in London" album.

thanks googlenut,

I think you're on the right track. really I thought it was much
earlier than 1982 but granny's time barometer broke long ago. I did
find this Freddie Scott "Got What I Need (You)." says the material
was recorded between 1966-68. don't know if this is the same song or
a red herring. I'm sorry this one has been so difficult.

hi googlenut!

it is indeed "You Got What I Want" by Teddy P. he sounds so much like
Dennis Edwards of the Temps that granny got lost in a time warp. it
was not on any of granny's Teddy P. tapes but a kind soul sent granny
an MP3 and it was verified just this morning. you guys take such good
care of granny and she really appreciates it when she has her senior
moments. please post in the answer section and thanks for all the
help, kids!

Hi Granny!

I’ll have to credit my brother with this one. He was visiting when I
saw the question. He knew it right away. I’m just sorry that I wasn’t
able to find the clip for you. I’m glad that someone else was able to
find it for you.

that's what granny was hoping for -- an off-the-noggin reply. I spent
way too long searching with only these lyrics stuck in my head. is
your brother single and does he like older women who ask lots of goofy
questions? thank him very much for me! he certainly knows his tunes.

How about Satisfaction, or You Can't Always Get What You Want? ;-)

We should go back to the 50s ... as a Researcher, I'd like
"Searchin'", by the Coasters, best.

This catchy tune fits perfectly:

Momus - The Age of Information
http://www.phespirit.info/momus/19970107.htm

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are now entering
The age of information
It's perfectly safe
If we all take a few basic precautions
May I make some observations?

(...)

Axiom 1 for the world we've begun:

Your reputation used to depend on
What you concealed
Now it depends on what you reveal

The age of secretive mandarins who creep on heels of tact is dead:
We are all players now in the great game of fact instead

(...)

In the days before communication privacy meant staying at home
Sitting in the dark with the curtains shut unsure whether to answer
the phone
But these are different times, now the bottom line
Is that everyone should prepare to be known
Most of your friends will still like you fine

(...)

Axiom 5 for information workers who wish to stay alive:

Supply, never withhold, the information requested
With total disregard for interests
Personal and vested

Chinese whispers was an analogue game
Where the signal degraded between brain and brain
Digital whispers is the same in reverse
The word we spread gets better, not worse
Better, not worse"

(If all else fails, we still have the Beach Boys: "We're going
surfin'/ Bom bom dip di dit".)

I'd put in an interesting piece by The Smiths: "Please please please
let me get what I want..." ;)

"Peanuts" by The Police:

"It's all a game
You're not the same
Your famous name
The price of fame
Oh no
Try to liberate me
I said oh no
Stay and irritate me
I said oh no
Try to elevate me
I said oh no
Just a fallen hero..."

This one I didn't hear myself but the lyrics seem appropriate:

"So where do we go? And what should we do?
And why is the table set for two?
Is the answer in the question? I need some more direction/suggestions
Was the answer in the question all along?
DA DA DA DA"

There's always Cher's "Bang, Bang" !

Bang bang you shot me down
Bang bang I hit the ground
          Bang bang that awful sound
Bang bang my baby shot me down

Stuff happens!

wow! this has turned into a fun exercise. granny loved reading all
the entries and lyrics with her coffee this morning.

RS: nope, sorry, not the song. it's less of a disco beat and more of
an R&B groove. I have some Teddy P in my collection that I'll look
through but not "Live from London" I'm sure. also have folks workin'
some back channels for me. I'll keep you posted.

thanks for all the input,
granny
