I am looking for a beginning woodworking class in San Francisco or
nearby. It can't be in the east bay, that's too far, so anywhere in
San Francisco or San Mateo county is good.

The class should provide a broad overview of all the tools. I just
need to know how to get started. The class should start sometime in
the next few months and needs to be in the afternoon or on weekends.

If possible, it might be nice if the class focused more on art than on
furniture building, but I'll take a look at whatever is available.

Hi mxnmatch,

I have found one beginning woodworking class that may satisfy your
requirements. The class is called "Woodshop," and here is a
description of it:
"The class emphasizes general woodworking skills for the beginning and
advanced student through individualized instruction and the completion
of your own pet projects."

The class meets in the evening (7 PM to 10 PM) every Wednesday from
May 7 to June 6 at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo. It costs $113.
 Would this be acceptable?

There are a couple other organizations in San Francisco that offer
beginning woodworking classes. I will contact them to see if they
will be offering any classes in the next few months.

Regards,
sldreamer

Hello mxnmatch-ga,

You are in luck. There are a variety of woodworking classes available
in San Francisco and San Mateo county. If you’re willing to extend
your geographic limits, there are some very interesting offerings in
Marin and the East Bay as well. Since you indicated that you don’t
have a time deadline, I suggest that you contact each of the schools
and get on their mailing lists for future course schedules even if the
current calendar doesn’t offer anything that meets your needs. I’ve
divided the results of my search according to categories so you can
scan the results quickly.

Have a great time browsing what’s available and learning this
interesting craft.
