In 1995 I was told that George Englebretson and Fred Sommers, both
working in the United States, had made important advances in modern
logic. I have never been able to find any of their writings. Can
anyone refer me to any published material by either man.

I sent a slightly garbled comment before realising I could use this
box for what I wanted to say. This was that I was mortified by not
having found for myself what you found for me, virtually instantly. I
had been developing what I now realise was some hubris as a searcher
and was mystified by my inability to find anything about Englebretson
and Sommers over a period of years. Amongst various catalogues I had
searched that of the Sydney University library, which has a very
extensive collection. I must have been making mistakes which may be
obvious to you, even from this scanty description. If you feel you
can usefully give me some tips, I am happy to pay on a quantum meruit
basis. Regards.

Hello Checkup,

Thank you for the five star rating!

The two Google search options that I constantly use are phrase
searches and “OR” searches. I used those options in researching your
question.

Phrase Searches

Search for complete phrases by enclosing them in quotation marks.
Words enclosed in quotation marks "like this" will appear together in
all results exactly as you have entered them. Phrase searches are
especially useful when searching for famous sayings or proper names.

Example “George Englebretsen”

"OR" Searches

Google supports the logical "OR" operator. To retrieve pages that
include either word A or word B, use an uppercase OR between terms.

For example, to search for a vacation in either London or Paris, just
type:

vacation london OR paris

In your question I was looking for books or publications by George
Englebretsen which were about logic.

This is how I entered my search in Google.

“George Englebretsen” publications OR books OR logic

If I wanted the word logic to come up in all the results I would have
entered it with a plus sign in front of the word logic.

Example:

“George Englebretsen” publications OR books +logic

Google provides great tips for searching.

No complaints. The opposite. I am only using
this avenue of reply because I cannot at the moment
see any other way.

Bobbie7 is a bobbydazzler.

He answered an extra question I asked, with great
speed and helpfulness. I wish to pay him $10 for
this further answer. Can you tell me how I can do
it?

Hi Checkup,
Thanks for the kind words.

Excellent answer, but it leaves also appalled by my inadequacy as a
searcher. Some time ago I conducted what I thought was a thorough
search, including of Amazon. Before asking my question today, I
entered both names in the ordinary Google search slot, with a nil
return. I must have been doing something very wrong. Anyway, thanks
bobbie7. I would pay you for some tips if you wanted to give them.

Greetings, checkup!

The only time you can add a tip for your Researcher is at the time
that you rate the Answer, which effectively closes your Question.

However, since you still wish to provide Bobbie a tip, you can address
a Question for $2.00 to her with a Subject line of:
"For Researcher bobbie7-ga only"

Researchers get 75% of a Question's fee, but they receive 100% of a
tip. So after Bobbie posts an "Answer" to your new Question, you can
rate her 5 stars and at that time, add a tip of whatever additional
amount you would like to give.

Thanks for your consideration and appreciation for one of our
Researchers, and best wishes on your way to becoming an "ace"
researcher!
