Hello prpro,
Thank you for your question.
Many people have expressed frustration at Xupiter! PCHell offers the
following removal instructions:

Xupiter Toolbar Removal Instructions and Help
"What is Xupiter?
Xupiter Toolbar browser plug-in tools that gets installed on your
computer through a popup ad or driveby installation that installs many
times without your permission. It can also be loaded as an Active X
control in Internet Explorer.
Once installed on your computer, Xupiter proceeds to display pop-up
and pop-under ads as you surf the net. It also adds the Xupiter
Toolbar to your browser, adds links to your favorites, and changes
your home page. Xupiter then proceeds to track your browsing habits
and report back to a server...
...How to I Remove Xupiter?
Because there are multiple variants of the Xupiter toolbar, it makes
it difficult to remove manually. If you want manual removal
instructions for Xupiter please visit the following site
Xupiter Manual Removal http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/Xupiter.html
To remove this spyware automatically, you'll want to download
Ad-Aware, Spybot, or another automatic detection and removal tool."
I agree with their suggestions. Ad-Aware [ www.lavasoft.de ] and
SpyBot [ http://spybot.eon.net.au/ ] are excellent tools for detecting
and removing Spyware and I have used both successfully for quite some
time. They both seem to catch different things and are best used in
tandem. For more information and discussion on Spyware, visit Steve
Gibson's site at www.grc.com.
doxdesk.com has the removal instructions and excellent information on
this intrusive program:

"Manual removal
Open the registry (from the Start menu, click Run and enter regedit)
and find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Delete the entries 'XupiterStartup' and 'XupiterCfgLoader' (earlier
variants), 'SQUpdatesChecker' and 'SQConfigChecker' (Sqwire variant)
or 'OrbitUpdate' and 'OrbitView' (OrbitExplorer variant).
Open a DOS command prompt window (Start->Programs->Accessories) and
enter the following commands to deregister the toolbar (Xupiter and
BrowserWise variants):
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\Updates\XupiterToolbar.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\Updates\XTUpdate.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\Updates\XTSearch.dll"
(The earliest variants of Xupiter didn't have the XTSearch.dll file,
so don't worry if this last command gives an error.)
For the 2003 variant, use:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\XupiterToolbar.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\XTUpdate.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Xupiter\XTSearch.dll"
For the Browser variant, use:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Browser\Updates\BrowserToolbar.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Browser\Updates\BWUpdate.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Browser\Updates\BWSearch.dll"
For the Sqwire variant, use:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Sqwire\t.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Sqwire\u.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Sqwire\s.dll"
For the OrbitExplorer variant, use:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Common Files\OE\toolbar.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Common Files\OE\redirector.dll"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Common Files\OE\search.dll"
(On non-English versions of Windows, 'Program Files' and 'Common
Files' may be called something different. In that case you will have
to change these commands to match the name of these folders.)
Restart the computer and open the Program Files folder. Delete the
'Xupiter', 'Browser', 'Sqwire' or 'Orbit' folders, and in the
OrbitExplorer variant also the 'OE' folder inside Common Files. For
the Sqwire and OrbitExplorer variants, you should also open
'Downloaded Program Files' in the Windows folder and remove the
'Loader class' entry if it is there.
You can now restore your home page (Internet Options->General->Home
page) and your search settings (Internet Options->Programs->Reset web
settings). You can also delete the settings to clean up if you like:
open the registry and delete the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xupiter, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SQ
(Sqwire variant) or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CLSID\{0FDA4D2B-7975-405d-8D7C-F5E2247EAE80}
(OrbitExplorer variant). "
There are many other pages on Xupiter and its removal if you care to
repeat my search listed below.
Surprisingly, I have not heard of POP! or "People on Page" before and
my searches turned up nothing on this program. As a matter of fact,
even SpyChecker made no mention of this program:
http://www.spychecker.com/
Nor did Gibson Research or the list at TomCat. I suggest running
Ad-Aware, available free and Spybot to see if this is spyware. If they
do not catch this program, hit "Control-ALT-Delete" and see what is
running on your computer that could be this program. Note the name of
the program, and search files and folders for this program. Right
click the found name and select properties. See what information can
be found such as the publisher, date, version and the like and post a
clarification with this information and I will try to assist further.
Also, go to the start menu / run and type in msconfig. Go to the
Startup tab and see if you can find mention of this program.
If neither of these help you identify this program, go to
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,3975,00.asp and download
the free BHOCOP. Run this to see if it identifies this program and
aids in uninstalling it.
Search Strategy:
remove OR removing xupiter
remove OR removing +"people on page"
"people on page" OR "POP!"
I trust my research has been helpful in removing your spyware and
annoyances. If a link above should fail to work or anything require
further explanation or research, please do post a Request for
Clarification prior to rating the answer and closing the question and
I will be pleased to assist further.

Hello again prpro,
Very helpful clarification - thank you.
I visited the support section of PeopleOnPage and found their
uninstall instructions:
http://www.peopleonpage.com/support/faq.html#49
" How do I uninstall POP! from my computer?
To uninstall POP!, click the Start button on your computer and open
the Control Panel, then select Add/Remove Programs. Find POP! in the
list of programs, click the Change/Remove button and follow the
instructions. When you are finished uninstalling, you should restart
your computer, and POP!! will be completely removed from your
computer.
How do I unregister and remove my POP! profile?
If you would like to remove your profile from POP!, you need to
unregister. (If you have uninstalled, you will need to re-install POP!
to access your account and unregister.) To unregister, sign in to POP!
with the email address and password of the profile you are
unregistering. Click the Controls button on the POPBAR and choose My
Account from the menu that displays. When the My Account page opens,
click the Registration Information link. When the Change Registration
page opens, click the Unregister from POP! link. When the
Unregistration page opens, enter your email address and password and
choose whether you want to unregister from POP! Dating or from POP!
Completely, then click the Unregister button.
I'm experiencing technical difficulties with POP!, what should I do?
By all means, Contact Us We want to ensure the quality of your POP!
experience, and we're always here to help."
So, I would follow their instructions. If it fails to remove the
program, try uninstalling from Safe mode as part of the program may be
running when you try to uninstall it. Should that fail, you can email
them for further assistance:
mailto:support@peopleonpage.com
Whenever I remove an intrusive program, I also use RegClean (available
free from Microsoft) and Norton WinDoctor (part of Norton Utilities)
to further remove registry entries that may have been left behind.
I trust this will assist with this program.
