Hello Trish,

I love questions like this -- the U.S. government has so many
different surveys of so many different topics, one of them is bound to
help out.

In your case, the data of interest is from the U.S. Department of
Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics' survey of "National Occupational
Employment and Wage Estimates: Management Occupations".

At this site:

http://www.bls.gov/oes/2001/oes_11Ma.htm

You'll find a table that details the breakout of the nation's
7,212,360 managers for the year 2001 (the latest information
available).

About 456,000 of the managers are CEO's so those are your executive
level managers. For the other levels, you'll have to make your own
judgements as to which categories fit into the "top" and "middle"
levels you're looking for.

Hope it is what you need. If anything requires elaboration, just let
me know through a Request for Clarification, and I'll be happy to help
out.
