Question ID: 194479
I need information on the PUMP MANUFACTURING industry (SIC 3561, NAICS
333911).

The information I need includes the top 5 (+-2 as appropriate)
manufacturers in terms of *global* sales or production or some other
logical measurement. I also need sources for some (at least 2-3)
economic
indicators that are updated *monthly* or at least *quarterly* and
available to the public that show the health or status of the PUMP
industry. (For example, this might include a source for a monthly
report on the # of units produced, or sales data for the industry, or
an indicator that affects a related group like the industry's
customers, etc.) The information can come from any reputable source
including government, trade association, industry publication, major
company's web site, etc.

If you are unsure of whether a certain indicator will work, please ask
for clarification.

I don't need to be taught about the industry or need any background
information - just the 2 things I have asked for: 1. top companies &
2.
sources for monthly or quarterly updated and publicy available
industry economic
indicators.

To be clear, I am talking about *industrial* pumps.

Hello,

I've been looking into several of your questions. While I don't have
an answer, I have found out a few things that I'd like to get your
feedback on, as it would help me -- and other researchers -- provide
the best service we can.

It is possible to get *some* short term (monthly/quarterly) economic
data on any 4-digit SIC code of your choosing. However, the type of
info you're looking for -- production information -- does not seem to
be readily available. Instead, there is regularly-reported data on
industry-sector labor statistics such as number of employees, hours
worked, amount earned, amount of overtime -- things like that.

While not direct production numbers, these are reasonable surrogates
-- the more hours worked (and especially, the more overtime worked),
the busier the industry segment is.

There *are* regular monthly production figures published, but not
broken out at the 4-digit SIC level (the survey size is too small to
allow that fine a level of detail). Instead, the data are aggregated
in categories like "industrial machinery", which would subsume the
categories you seem to be interested in.

More detailed production figures are certainly available, but I've
only seen these in annual reports from private analysts that are
priced at thousands of dollars each (not everyone charges Gooogle
Answer rates!).

Let me know if any of this data is of interest to you, or if it is too
far removed from what you need to be of value. While awaiting your
reply, I'll also look into the "Top 5 firms" type of info that you
need as well.

Thanks

Thank you for looking into my question.

This information is being prepared for my company which is a supplier
of parts for industrial machinery. The employment data would not
really help us in assessing our opportunities in pumps. I assume you
are referring to statistics available from the bureau of labor /
census.

As to your next question, we are really looking for information
specific to pumps here. We are looking to prioritize various
industries so information on a general topic like "industrial
machinery" would not really help because that would include everything
we do.

As to the annual reports you mentioned, we are looking for monthly or
quarterly updates and annual reports only come out annually and with a
several month delay at that.

I appreciate your continued interest and I suggest requesting
clarification if you want to keep the dialog going.

While the top 5 firms would not be a complete answer, it is still
information that I am looking for. Please let me know if you can find
part, but not all of my answer so we can work something out (such as
opening a new question with a lower fee for you to post what you have
found.) Thank you

so that we can work something out where I get the information I need
and you can be compenstated for your work.
