When my friends and I go kayak camping, we find it's difficult to fit all our beer, I mean gear, on our kayaks. We're thinking, if we rented a bass boat with an electric trolling motor, how hard would it be to fit a remote control onto that so we could have a boat full of ice and beer gliding along beside us as we paddle out to our islands? So that's my question -- what's the cheapest way to accomplish this? The remote would have to work from up to 100 ft away. Just to get you off to a running start, there are several manufacturers of remote controls for trolling motors (Minn Kota, Motorguide), but it's not clear to me that these would work over the distance I'm talking about. |

If you tie all the cans of beer together and tow them behind the kyak you wont need ice. |

I'm assuming you are not "shooting the rapids" .. if you want a small bass boat to go with ya..... I'm also confused why you would rather have take kayak vs a canoe..... But just take an cheap inflatable raft and tie it up and drag the thing...you would save a ton of time and money.... |

Kitch8 -- the idea of towing an inflatable raft makes sense, but we were kind of hoping to throw a lot of gear in there too, and that would be a lot of drag over the distance we're going (2+ miles out). Plus, there's just the geek factor of operating a boat full of beer out on the lake with a remote control while you and your friends paddle along. If you can't see that I question your very humanity. ;) Your kayak v. canoe question raises a good point...kayaks are easier to handle than canoes where we'll be (Lake Superior), but how likely is a flat boat to survive a rough crossing...Better rethink. |
