I inadvertantly ended up with more tickets than I need to a sporting
event that has since sold out. I want to know whether I should sell
the excess tickets now (60 days before the game), or wait until nearer
the date.

Disclaimer: This is not an illegal scalping endeavor. I have reviewed
the law, and given my location and the sporting venue (in another
state), I'm allowed to sell for higher that face value.

A successful answer will have some documentation about pricing trends,
and preferably a few links I can access to give me some tips about
when and how to sell.

I don't think anyone could possibly give you an accurate answer
without first knowing what the event is, where the venue is located
and the kind of seating that is reserved (if any). The number of extra
tickets you have might also make a difference as to when you should
start offering. If it's a frog jumping contest in the Okefenokee Swamp
it wouldn't matter when you sold your tickets but if it's sideline
seats at this year's superbowl, that might differ dramatically. If you
have 100 tickets, you might start earlier than if you just had two.
And so on...

See what I mean?

Six tickets to a Major League Baseball game. Crosstown series,
Cubs/White Sox. The game sold out a couple of months ago, the first
day the tickets went on sale.

I'm not in a rush to sell, and I suspect I won't have any trouble
moving the tickets, regardless of when I try to sell them. All I'm
looking for is some empirical evidence regarding whether demand tends
to pick up or decline as the game date nears.
