I am using WindowsXP Prof, the browser is Internet Explorer. My email
is Hotmail and Outlook Express. I have my Hotmail email on the same as
the Outlook Express. when I go to the OE ste to read all mail form
all acounts, if I see a site that I want to visit..Example: the site
offered by Google to verify info. No, it doesn't hide or minimize, it
just goes away. Has done this quite a few times in the past few days.
I have not opened any attachments before it starts. The only new
thing I have on my computer is the iHateSpam cD that I bot from World
Start.com at the sunbelt shop. It did not do this before I had this
on my computer.
Thanks for the help..Judith A. Braun

Hi Judith,

Thanks for your reply. Just to make it clear, do you mean when you
click on a link in OE, an IE browser window will try to open up but
will suddenly disappear? Did this problem started after you installed
the iHateSpam program? If so, please confirm and we may be able to
come up with a solution. Thank you.

Hello Judith,

iHateSpam is a nice utility to screen and automatically turn off those
pesky pop-up windows. Unfortunately, it sometimes cannot accurately
identify what is spam and what is not. This is the reason why the IE
window appears and disappears after you click on the link. You will
have to configure it yourself by declaring what is spam and what is
not. It is possible that the links you were trying to open are
identified by default as spam by iHateSpam.

In case the configuration settings doesn't work, you can temporarily
turn off iHateSpam so that you can open the links -- that is, if you
really want to. Once turned off, you will be able to open the links
you want to explore. This solution can be found at Sunbelt
Software.com - the developer of iHateSpam.:

You can also go to the developer's homepage. Below the page, there are

You can download the printable files by right-clicking on the link and

There is another workaround for this one without turning off
iHateSpam. You can:

1) Right-click on the link and choose "Open in New Window"

or

2) Open a new IE browser window, right-click on the link and choose
"Copy Shortcut" and paste it in the Address bar of your IE browser.

I hope this helps you. Should you have any comments/questions, please
feel free to post your clarification before rating this and I'll
attend to you as soon as possible. Thanks for asking Judith.

Hello Judith and thanks for making a clarification. You confirmed that
the problem started after you installed iHateSpam therefore we can say
that it is the cause of the problem. Remember, you did not have that
problem before you installed iHateSpam. I read the FAQ's from the
developer's site and it is mentioned that iHateSpam can cause weird
behavior in certain applications.

"...however it happens all the time on sites that I am in..not just in
Outlook express."

That's why you have to change the configuration of iHateSpam and
declare what should be stopped and what should be ignored. Read your
software documentation regarding this or you can read through the FAQs
through the second link I provided you before. If the solutions
presented in those pages can't help you to solve the problem, please
understand I can be of no further help because the problem is
obviously caused by iHateSpam's limitations. That is why they keep on
updating the software.

You can contact the developer for product support and inquiry
regarding this problem through this link:

Contact Sunbelt Software
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/contact_us.cfm

Like I said, you have the option of using the workaround I gave you.
If that doesn't work you can turn off the program through the program
itself or by pressing ctrl+alt+delete once so that the Close program
window will appear. From there, you can select and turn off iHateSpam
but doing this would mean that you are once again, prone to unwanted
pop-up messages -- this is the disadvantage. You can turn on the
program again by clicking on it's program icon.

Judith, before I answered your question I asked you if the problem
started after you installed the iHateSpam program. Your reply was:

"Yes..is exactly what I mean...if I am opening email in ANY program it
will do this. Yes..it started doing it after I installed iHateSpam."

Those were your exact words. The tendency of course of any person
receiving that reply would be to say that iHatespam is the cause of
the problem. That is the main reason why I proceeded to answer by
focusing on iHatespam.

Now just to make sure that we are communicating properly and that we
are using the correct terms, I'd like to verify something before I
proceed to find a solution to your problem. I'm sorry to ask you this
but we need to avoid miscommunications so as to avoid wasting time on
unnecessary clarifications. Today you said:

"I am sorry, but the iHatespam is NOT the problem...am still having it
and I had it before I installed the CD for this program. I uninstalled
the cd..i Hatespam and am still having this problem."

Please take note that based on what you said, "...before I installed
the CD for this program. I uninstalled the cd..." it may be possible
that you are uninstalling the "iHateSpam CD" -- the physical CD --
instead of the program. Please understand that my main instructions to
you were to configure the program and/or temporarily turn it off. It
NEVER involved installing or removing CD's. My instructions where
directly focused to the program, not the CD.

Furthermore, I can't find any mention in your rfc that you did
anything about configuring the program's settings. Did you do it? Did
you follow the instructions as suggested?

Well, I think that taking the iHateSpam off the computer to see if it
happened again was a good way to go...and from your answer, I assume
that you do not know what the problem is. thank you for trying,, and
I will look some other place for an answer..

Clarification of Answer by feilong-ga on 28 Apr 2003 17:31 PDT
Judith, I have helped a lot of customers in the past. If you can't
understand the explanations or follow the instructions, how can I or
anyone else help you solve the problem? Since you already assumed that
I don't know what the problem is without even confirming that you gave
me accurate details of the problem and confirming that you followed
the instructions, I guess I can't help you anymore. Thanks for your
time and I hope you get your answer where you want to find it.
