Hi, Granny!

This site describes ALX-0646 as a "Novel type of triptan serotonin
(5HT1) antagonist." I would take "novel" to mean that it differs from
almotriptan, eletriptan, frovatriptan, naratriptan, rizatriptan,
sumatriptan, zolmitriptan, and whatevertriptan.

http://www.abpi.org.uk/publications/publication_details/targetMigraine/section6.asp

Here's a description of the drug as "another triptan":

http://216.239.33.100/search?q=cache:glPNtf3Aa3IC:www.neuroinv.com/NPScom.html

Another use of the term "novel":

"ALX-0646 is a novel compound that appears to be less likely to cause
cardiovascular side effects than other migraine treatments currently
on the market. It acts selectively on certain serotonin receptor
subtypes in the brain and has low affinity for serotonin receptors in
cardiovascular tissue."

Sorry, but I have not been able to find any announcement of a trade
name. Hope someone else can get that for you. Thinking about this
stuff sure can give a person a whopper ol' headache. ;-)

It apparently didn't have a name as of National Headache Awareness Week 2002:

"Pending Medications for Headache Treatment"

It is just out of phase I "A Phase I study showed that the compound
was safe and well tolerated in human volunteers."
http://www.npsp.com/drug_development/dd_alx0646.php Pafalafa's ABPI
reference mentions these trials were conducted in the UK.

Product pipeline: http://www.npsp.com/drug_development/pipeline.php

No report of the phase I study in Medline and no journal entries
turned up on Scirus.com.
