Question ID: 194998
I am trying to locate an old friend: Rui Alberto Camacho. Rui lives
in England, probably in or near London. He last worked for British
Airways (as of the late 1980s). He was born in Portugal's Azores
islands in the mid-1950s, and became a citizen of the UK as a young
adult. His mother lived in Bournemouth for many years, as did Rui and
his brother Alberto. My name is Philip Centanni. I live in New
Orleans, Louisiana and am sure he would like to contact me also. My
email address can be forwarded to him: philcent@bellsouth.net.

Dear felipe,

Does Rui Alberto Camacho have a third given name, so his intitials
would be R.A.N. Camacho?

Regards,
Scriptor

I am not sure if he has a third given name. It is quite likely that it
is him, considering that he is probably the only R. A. Camacho living
in the UK. Thank you for the other search sites.

Dear felipe,

As you might already know from reading the Google Answers Frequently
Asked Questions, no Researcher is allowed to provide information on
living private individuals. This includes, unfortunately, adresses,
phone numbers, and the like of such persons.
However, what we may do is directing you to a legal source where you
can obtain such information yourself. This is what I will do now, in
order to assist you in your search for R.A.Camacho.

Please have a look at the following websites:

UKphonebook.com: UK Telephone Numbers
http://www.ukphonebook.com/
- This online directory of listed UK phone numbers requires to sign
in, but is free of charge. I did a residential search in "London Area"
as location and found only three Camachos, two with the first name
initial "R." and one with "R.A.N.". One "R.A." Camacho is resident in
the "Oxford Area". Please understand that I am not allowed to give you
more specific information and instructions here; but you will find the
directory easy to use, so you will not encounter any problems finding
those persons' entries yourself.

InfoSpace: People Finder UK - Phone and Address Search
http://www.infospace.com/uk/index_ppl_uk.htm
- This online directory of UK addresses and phone numbers works like
UKphonebook. Additionally, you can search all UK counties, one after
the other, for "R. Camacho" here.

British Telecom: Online Telephone Directory
http://www.bt.com/directory-enquiries/
- Very much like UKphonebook, with the difference that this is the
official directory of Great Britain's most important phone company.
Please note that the number of daily searches is limited to 10 for
every single visitor.

Using those sources, I was able to locate persons in the UK that might
be Rui Alberto Camacho. While I am not entitled to let you know the
results of those searches, I am sure you will use these directories
for locating and contacting your friend, though it is not a very
convenient way. I sincerely hope that your search will be successful.

Best regards,
Scriptor
Reason this answer was rejected by felipe-ga:
My question was not answered because it is your policy not to
disclosed such answers. A friend had recommended your service to me
who thought that Google definitely would be able to help me. That is
why I did not read the FAQs section or think of asking if you could
help me. Once the question was posted, I was not informed that
"personal data" from living people could not be disclosed; only that
was possibly your policy. I was prepared for the possibility of your
having such a policy, but I hoped that you could at least forward my
persona data to the friend I was seeking via mail, email or phone. You
recommended that I try the phone book. I had tried the UK phone book
myself before without success and was hoping that you could find my
friend wherever he was. I appreciate the work and advice of the
scriptor, but I would very much appreciate a refund. Thank you for
your attention to this matter.

While I appreciate the Scriptor's effort, had I been informed that
personal data of living individuals could not be forwarded to me I
would have expected a full refund. The initially vague answer seemed
to indicate that he or she was not sure about the status of such data,
and requests for further information seemed to hold out hope that the
data could be given to me. Therefore I am requesting a half refund of
$40.00 based on the assumption that the scriptor's correspondence was
in good faith.

I hope you can be reunited with your friend, but this service is not
the best place to begin looking. It is my understanding that Google
Answers does not give out personal data about living individuals.

You could try looking at www.friendsreunited.co.uk which could have
his details through his school or employer, if he is registered.
There is also a possibilty of looking for his details through
Directory Enquiries on the British Telecom website at
http://www.bt.com/directory-enquiries

I appreciate the suggestions, but I feel that since you could not
answer my inquiry more specifically that I should receive a partial
refund of the $80.00 fee. After all, had there been a warning or
disclaimer about not giving information about living people, I would
have pursued other avenues on my own.

Because of your time and effort in researching this, I believe half
the amount would be fair. By re-reading your correspondence with me,
you will see that your initial response was vague about giving
personal data about living persons: "It is my understanding that
Google Answers does not give out personal data..." There were also
requests for more information, such as does he have an "N" for a third
initial. This all led me to think that perhaps it was still possible
for me to receive the data from you.

Of course, I would be satisfied if you have indeed found Rui for you
to give him my information without your giving his to me. Then I would
be happy to pay the full $80.00. Please contact me about this. Thank
you, Philip Centanni

If you are unsatisfied, Google Answers offers full refunds. Just click
on this link
http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=refundrequest

You have a choice of a refund or reposting the question again.
However, since this type of question cannot be answered to your
satisfaction per the rules, the repost wouldn't really do anything for
you.

Felipe,

This is not a matter that was under Scriptor's control. He has given
you all that a Google Answers Researcher is permitted to give.

Our contracts prohibit us from divulging personal data about private
individuals. This is for everyone's protection; we have no way of
knowing who may ask for such information, nor can we possibly verify
that the motives behind such a question are benign.

From the Google Answers FAQ:

There are very few online resources for finding someone in the UK.
Your best bet is to pay http://www.192.com - they have the electoral
roll online, so if he's registered to vote he'll be listed. With such
an unusual name there should only be one listing to choose from.
