This assignment requires researching and developing a detailed written
public relations
program for a real organisation.
The topic and subject will need to selected in the first week and
discussed and agreed
with the lecturer/course co-ordinator (distance students)/tutor.
1. An interim Report is due at the end of Week Six which must meet the
following
criteria:
Evidence that an organisation has been selected and approached and
at least
two preliminary interviews conducted-4
A situational analysis has been made-3
A set of goals and objectives have been developed and agreed by the
organisation-4
A research methodology has been developed, with appropriate
academic
referencing-4
The following plan outline is suggested.
Situational analysis (statement of problem/ describe opportunity)
Goals (outcomes) and objectives (process and specific activities)
Research
Identify publics and stakeholders (demographics, psychographics,
infographics)
Strategies and tactics
Media decisions (communication methodology)
Implementation, budgets and evaluation outcomes
You must focus on public relations/ communication issues, not
management or marketing
activities. You may include a separate list of recommended management
tasks you
believe necessary as an appendix and why they would be required to
ensure the
successful implementation of your program.
With reference to budgets, the only full calculation to be worked out
by you for your
budget is the fee for time based on an hourly rate you set for
yourself. Once you have
worked out roughly how long it will take you to complete some of the
projects you have
set in the program you will be able to determine roughly what you can
achieve in a onemonth
or a six-month timeframe. This will be a guide to timing your
activities to meet
your objectives. You should assume that work involving photographers,
designers,
printers, producers or other outside contractors is still to be costed
and will not be
included in your program.
