Hello TomCat.

There closest club I found was in Roseville - Contact:Allan Goff
916-723-8073

There is one in Sacramento: http://webs.lanset.com/jmclmc/default.htm

There is a Chess Club in Placerville. The contact number is: Neville
Arroves (530) 642-9043

A listing of California Chess clubs can be found at
http://www.calchess.org/chessclubs.html#24

Since there was none in Grass Valley itself I was reluctant to post
this an answer. If you consider any of these to meet your needs let me
know and I will post it as an answer so I can get credit. Thanks.

Greetings Tomcatr:

I have located a source for chess players in Grass Valley. The Senior
Citizens' Foundation of Western Nevada County offer chess sessions
every Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. It will also be a great
place for you to network to meet other chess players.

Their main web site is http://home.pacbell.net/fdnnut/ and I drilled
down through the site until I located the Chess offering at
http://home.pacbell.net/fdnnut/activities.htm.

The contact information for the Senior Center is:
11350 McCourtney Road (P.O. Box 968)
Grass Valley, CA 95945
Telephone (530) 273-4961

I just phoned the number but there was no answer. I had previously
located another number for them that was disconnected but this newer
one rang through just fine. Just no one there to answer. :)

I found the center's address through a link for voters registration
locations at http://216.239.39.100/search?q=cache:-WuD3gjQWWAC:election.co.nevada.ca.us/register_vote.htm+senior+citizens+center+alta+sierra%22+grass+valley&hl=en&start=2&ie=UTF-8.
I used the address to search after that.

Another possibility is Lake Wildwood that appears to be nearby - I
located some info from the results of an owner-renter survey from
1998. It listed chess as a tenant suggestion for new activities.
Since 5 years have passed, Lake Wildwood might now have a Chess
activity at their community center.

My source for the info is located at
http://www.lwwa.org/Organization/GoverningDocuments/MasterPlan/Survey1998.rtf.
The only contact info I could find for Lake Wildwood was a huge list
of real estate agents. Just phone any agent in town and they will
probably be able to give you pertainent phone numbers for Lake
Wildwood's community center.

Another avenue to find chess players locally would be to contact the
Grass Valley Elementary School and inquire which adults monitor their
chess club. I found info about it at
http://www.greatschools.net/modperl/browse_school/ca/212. That would
be a great possibility because a few parents and teachers who play
chess may have formed the club. You might discover a good network
through them. "Activities and Sports...boys basketball & flag
football- provided by Oakland Recreation Dept and chess club- after
school every Tuesday."

Contact info for the school is:
4720 Dunkirk Ave.
Oakland, CA 94605
Phone: (510) 879-1220
Fax: (510) 879-1229

**************

Wish I was closer and I'd meet up with you at the Senior Center for a
game. :) I learned chess from my father when I was a child and I've
always enjoyed it.

Should you require clarification of any of the information or links I
have provided, please request it and I will be happy to respond.
