The song is called "Koran" by Delerium. I want to know what the man is singing. I know one part, he says "Bismilla Irahmaan Iraheem" which means "In the name of Allah, most gracious, most merciful". |

Hi pseudome! I was about to go to bed, but then I saw your question and just had to respond. Delerium is one of my favorite bands! The interesting thing about the song "Koran" is that it appeared on the initial pressings of the album 'Karma.' But it was replaced by another song in subsequent pressings, due to a problem with a particular sample. The following discussion tells why the song was replaced: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&threadm=7r990m%24sdv%241%40news4.svr.pol.co.uk&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Ddelerium%2Bkoran%2Bremoved%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26safe%3Doff%26selm%3D7r990m%2524sdv%25241%2540news4.svr.pol.co.uk%26rnum%3D1 I bought 'Karma' when it was first released, so my copy has "Koran" on it. The liner notes do contain the lyrics to some of the songs; however, they do not contain the lyrics to "Koran." I've searched all over the web and newsgroups, and I haven't been able to find anything. The official Delerium page on the Nettwerk web site has no information on lyrics: Nettwerk: Delerium http://www.nettwerk.com/artist.php?artist_id=13 Even the two major Delerium fan sites, which have the lyrics to some songs, do not have the lyrics to "Koran": Mindphaser http://www.mindphaser.com/ Delerium.com (this site doesn't even acknowledge that "Koran" exists) http://www.delerium.com/ There is also no information on the source of any of the samples used in "Koran," so we can't try to determine the lyrics based on the samples. I'm tempted to say that the lyrics to "Koran" are not available on the Internet. But I know if I were to say that, then one of our fabulous Researchers would immediately post the lyrics along with a web link! :-) Best regards, sldreamer |

It seems that this song used verses from the Al Rahman section of the Koran. "Delirium Invites Muslims Ire: In another similar incident, the Network Records Company has tendered an apology to the Muslim community in the United States, for producing a recording of songs containing Quranic verses interspersed with music, in a song entitled Koran. The recording was made by the music group Delirium, and is sung using Quranic verses from the surah Al-Rahman chapter as lyrics, as well as the opening salutation Bismillah, interspersed with music. The Council for American-Islamic Relations contacted the company and lodged its complaint in this connection. The company responded by making a direct apology for the production, saying that the group and the company did not intend to hurt Islam or the Muslims, claiming that the mistake was the result of ignorance. The company says it has taken a decision to withdraw all such recordings that are in the market." http://www.islamicvoice.com/october.99/news.htm You might recognize the lyrics which interest you by listening to audio clips from the surah Al-Rahman. One possible site is: http://islamicity.com/multimedia/radio/ch100/ There are many English translations of the surah online, including: http://islam.org/mosque/quran/55.htm#1 |
