not really sure which one finally did it but all the clean up should
help with other system-clogging messes as well.

Thanks for the question and very glad the other information was of
some help.  Here are two of my favorite preventative maintenance
tools.

Symantec's Norton SystemWorks works well for me.  Norton AntiVirus
keeps out the virii and CleanSweep clears the system quite nicely.
With often offered rebates, it is very affordable.

There is the previously mentioned Ad-aware from Lavasoft, which is
great for taking care of questionable cookies and spyware, and is
free (for personal use...) as well!
