Question ID: 196057
I need help on my science project for class!

I am looking to purchase as cheap as possible one Automatic water
valve, 3/8”, temperature activated, opens on temperature rise. I have
herd there are some possibly made by either Penn or Danfoss if that
rings a bell.

This valve is referred to on some plans by an American who now lives
in Great Britain but I think he buys the valve in America.

Maybe this will help from the instructions?
“automatic control valve. It is a bimetal spring-operated
refrigeration valve. The bimetal temp sensor is inside a flexible
sensor probe which has a gland nut which fits the 3/4 inch FIP”.

He also said the valve is the kind used for an ice maker.

He will sell one to me for $290 including shipping. I want it cheaper
so in the future I know where to source them.

This valve does not have to be that exact valve it just needs to fill
the role so I can fit it into the project I am working on.

It needs to run on water pressure not be plugged into electricity. The
valve needs to be temperature activated (with sensor) in a way that
when the temperature rises to a certain point it lets out water until
the temperature falls back below that point. The temperature at which
it opens also needs to be adjustable. The water coming into the valve
will be under the same pressure as a common garden hose and size too
but I can adjust the size to fit the valve. The water going out will
flow into a copper tube ¼” with outside diameter of .25 but I can
adjust to make that fit as well.

Please tell me how to get my hands on one (any or all included):
Ordering instructions
Stores around San Diego, CA,
Prices
Specs
Manufacturer
Suppliers
What are they used for (refrigerator part possibly if so which
refrigerator and what dump can I find one in)
Ebay seller
Website with current stock

Simple version of what I want:

Source of a valve which regulates water flow upon rise in its
temperature sensor.

No electricity but operates on water pressure.

Water flow volume close to that of a garden hose or less.

Price.

How to get one.

Clues:

I am pretty sure there are some made by Penn and/or Danfoss.

These valves might be used in ice makers be that for a fridge or more
commercial ice maker I am not sure.

Been described to me as “automatic control valve. It is a bimetal
spring-operated refrigeration valve. The bimetal temp sensor is inside
a flexible sensor probe which has a gland nut which fits the 3/4 inch
FIP”.

Please comment on what can make my search easier.

Thanks, Luke

Other researchers may have tried to answer your question, but have not
located the valve you need, because it might be especially hard to
find. But don't worry, if someone finds it, it will be posted as an
Answer. :)

what the application is for?

This guy's site looks promising, I won't even begin to think I know
what you plan on using this for but here is this one:

or this one: http://www.partsguy.com/cgi-bin/PartsGuy/T104F1512.html

Maybe you could email him, he probably talks in your language. =*)

You can do your own searches with these terms: water controller, water
regulator, water switch, water valve, thermostat, thermostatic, fluid
valve, liquid, etc.
