And recall that it was the US government that supported Saddam's
dictatorship back in the beggining. Recall the CIA trained Ben Laden.

Please also recall that latin american governments were victims of the
US "war" against communism, in the 70s. There were no evil
dictatorships in those countries. The US government supported military
disctatorships, in their war against communism; which in fact, in
these countries, was a war against college students with glasses and
beards, which were tortured and murdered. An apology from the US
government is still pending.

So, anyone who was trained by, or worked for, the government should
not be stopped from committing crimes against humanity?  The Post
Office alone would have quite a few extra workers, had government
employs not been subject to the law (ie. those that went "postal". 
And I'm sure you're not suggesting that bin Laden should be allowed to
go free (considering he has claimed responsibility for the WTC and
other terror activities) because he was trained by the CIA.
It's called a "blowback" and in the secret world of
counter-intelligence, it happens quite often, as these people are
often driven by changing objectives (moral, financial, political,
etc.).
And I think you'll have a hard time finding any evidence suggesting
that the US has condoned any campaign against college students.
And I'm also suprised by your insinuation that we should not have
stood up to communism.  Are you implying that was the wrong course of
action?

Dear Carca-ga I if I promised that I would gladly adopt your views as
true views if they shall appear to truer views than my views, will you
grant me the same courtesy?  I am aware that most people are loaded
with pentup logic just waiting to be nugged out of them, and you may
be one of them.

Ok here is my best effort: You are 100% right about our having taained
and funded certain erstwile friends such as cousin Ben Laden and even
cousin Saddam, but that does not reflect negatively against America,
instead that indicates that we are not against the men themselves no
matter their religon nor nationality, we are only against evil deeds. 
The minute our best friends start doing evil deeds we often change,
and we should.

Although America is not perfect, no other contry has had more power
and has abused it less than us.  It certainly is not prudent to try to
latch us into a certain behavour if we found that that behavour is no
longer wise nor fruitful, whether it be supporting Ben Laden when we
thought he was OK, or dropping the Big Bomb on Japan.

Furthermore, you do understand that other than inexorable treaties,
our national culture change from president to president.  You
certainly could not expect to latch our current president into the
same practises and attitudes of Nixon for example?

Well you surprised me toughlover, as I thought you were just another
ultra -rightwing illogical nut who could not see no further than the
Stars n'stripes no matter what the argument. Further I thought that
what was sent back to you would have shut you up but I was wrong on
both counts as you wrote back with some sound logic and argument of
your own to counter both views. Well done but yeah you should now
expect to get some further counter arguement from Carca if heshe holds
strong convictions on the subject.  I am , as always trying to see
both sides to the issue  including those older issues raised as to
whether it was right for the times or  completely wrong. To make somed
