Outlook Express version 6, all of a sudden I find that when I wish to
imbed a sound file (as against send them as attachments) they will
not
embed, and always ends up as an attachment. Likewise if I am in my
browser (Explorer) if I select to send that web page as a page via
email , in the past it would insert the page into a new email in
Outlook Express, but
now it always makes it an attachment. The probable cause is something
I have downloaded but so far cannot figure out what configurations
have changed, as these embed options are not configurations as such
but
you select this options each time, but as stated, it reverts in each
case to being "attachments' for both sound and for web page. Does
anyone know the fix ? |

Greetings consulate,
Is the problem occurring because something has changed your "SEND"
mail format to something other than HTML? If your send format is Plain
Text, trying to send embedded files or HTML pages will show as
attachments. You can check this option in TOOLS --> OPTIONS --> SEND
--> MAIL SENDING FORMAT.
I'll be happy to help you figure out what may be changing this setting
for you if we can first determine if this is the problem. It may have
been just a one time change by something you installed and may hold
steady if you simply change it back. If this is the case, please allow
me the chance to answer this question before you close it out. I'm
posting this first as clarification as I want to make sure that you
haven't already checked this option before posting this as an answer.
Troubleshooting PC problems can sometimes be a drawn out process and I
didn't want to jump to a simple conclusion if you had already ruled it
out.
Thanks,
PWizard

Outlook Express has been set up to send in HTML format, I again just
sent myself a test email from O.E. to my Eudora email program (which
is the program I mainly use), it arrived correctly formatted in HTML ,
except again the sound came as an attachment. I have been using O.E.
for years to imbed sound in the emails and cannot figure out why now
it will not. I did install "Anotis" a add-on to O.E. which gives it
some extra abilities and I also added a spam control program called
"postal inspector" but when the sound stopped embedding and went as
attachments, I deleted both of those programs. So the problem
persists. Many thanks for your interest and help.

Hi, Consulate ...
I trust that you haven't changed the 'way' you were embedding sound
files between the time it worked and didn't work, is that correct?
(Just crossing off all possibilities here)
Next, I turned off sound in my email by removing outlook as an
association for the sound files to be sent. There's nothing worse than
to hear something when you're not expecting it - and I do not want to
'hear' my email.
In order to make sure it comes as attachments, I had to remove
associations from two files ... one was outlook express (file type for
email is .dbx), and I had to remove Outlook Express as an association
from the sound files.
Since I had to remove them to make the sound files come as an
attachment, did you check your filetypes to see if OE is associated
with the sound files, and vice versa?
I do not know if this will work, but it's worth a try, right?
Yours,
Serenata
