I'm looking for an updated, windows version of the old DOS text editor called E. (I think its a ibm pc-dos version, but I'm not sure) I don't need an identical clone, but something that has the same feature set and basically works the same way. The new version should run under XP and support long file names at a minumum. If I need to be more specific, please let me know. Thank you, -Corey |

Hi nuwanda, Good day and thanks for your question. I downloaded the 'E' editor from simtel.net and had a look at the features it had to offer. In fact, there are a number of editors which offer a wide variety of features. My favorite is UltraEdit. UltraEdit http://www.ultraedit.com A list of features can be found at http://www.ultraedit.com/products/features.html If you're looking for freeware editors, the following two are recommended: ConTEXT http://www.fixedsys.com/context/ Features at http://www.fixedsys.com/context/features.html Crimson Editor http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ Features http://www.crimsoneditor.com/english/features.html These editors will run on Windows XP and they support long filenames. Do try these out, and let me know if they lack any features you're expecting. Please do not hesitate to request for a clarification of the answer. Regards, aditya2k |

I'm not familiar with the E editor, but I found a similar question in the usenet archives that suggested the TSE editor, available from SemWare: http://www.semware.com/ Here's the usenet question: http://tinyurl.com/al8w Cheers, Eadfrith |
