My brother died and among his possessions I found an attractive chess
set missing the white king. The only description I can give you is
one side is white, the other side is brown with varying shades of
browns with horizontal uneven size stripes. The king is approximately
3-7/8" tall. The bottom width is 1-1/8" the top width is 7/8" - Going
up from the bottom there are 3 sections. The bottom one is 5/16" with
a 1/8" wide indentation which is 3/16" deep. Continuing up the next
section is 7/8" in length, 1-1/8" in width with the same indentation
as below. The next section upward is 5/16" in length and 1" in width,
6/8" in depth. Above this are 3 sections that are going up in a
rounded "V" shape, the narrow end to the front. The bottom most of
these "V" shaped sections measures 6/8" in height with a 1/8" indent.
There are two small indents in the front of the rounded "V" the bottom
most small indent is a little less than 1/2" and the one above it is
just slightly shorter. From the each side there is an indentation of
about 7/8" going upward from back to front. Immediately above those
diagonal indents are approx. 1/2" diagonal indents going up from back
to front on much less of an angle. Above that are two more "V"
shaped sections, the next one going up measures 5/16" in height,
15/16" in width with a 1/8" indent. The last rounded "V" section
measures 6/16" in height, a little under 7/8" in width. The last
section above the "V" is a flat, squarish section measuring 7/8th inch
in width, 9/16" in height and 3/8" in depth with two partial almost
1/8th" indent on both sides. The top is flat 7/8" x 3/8". I am
looking for the white king. If anyone can help me find a site that
would carry this peice, or if you can recognize this set from my
overly detailed description, or point me in the right direction, I
would be very appreciative.

Hello nyfrya-ga,

Would it be possible for you to post
a picture on the Web and then put a
link to it here? That would help me
  a lot.

It is either marble or granite. Looks sort of Incan, Myan maybe Hawaiian.

Hi nyfreya,

Researchers are not permitted to correspond privately with you via
email, but don't worry -- everything you post here in the
Clarification section will be read by all researchers who are
interested in working on your quesiton -- including dogbite.

As for your Chess piece, it really is hard to go on description. A
picture (even a sketch!) would be incredibly helpful.

If you can somehow get a picture, then try registering and uploading
your image at one of the following free sites, and then post the URL
of the image here.

<http://www.villagephotos.com> (limit 60,000 bytes per image)
<http://www.deviantart.com>
<http://www.usa-ezweb.com/ezfree>

We can take a look at it and perhaps find your missing piece.

Thanks - K~

I do not understand what you mean. I have no scanner so how would I
get the picture into the computer. I could take one with a regular
camera but can I mail it to anyone who can put it on the web? Sorry
for my ignorance.

You will have a terribly difficult time finding a single replacement
piece for a chess set that is identifical to the one that is missing,
especially if these were individually or hand-carved.

Find someone (friend, relative, college student, photo shop, etc) who
has a digital camera. Have them take a photo of the remaining King and
upload that to the internet (for you if possible). Let me know where I
can see it by posting the internet address here in the clarification
section. If you can do this, I will try to find someone who can make
you a replacement for your set.

Thank you. This will take me some time to do as I am wheelchair and
home bound. I will have to wait until my daughter has time to travel
to NYC and do something like you suggest. If it takes longer time
than I expect I will repost. Please be patient. I will let you know
when I can get this task accomplished. Again, thank you.
