Interesting assignment.
I'll do better than list the words for you (which would be awfully
cumbersome -- there are more than 700 words in English alone that
contain the three-letter sequence "ass").
Instead, here is the tool that you can use to quickly and
comprehensively generate all the words that contain any word of
interest to you:
http://www.allwords.com/
Simply enter the word you are interested in, into the search box, and
select "Words Containing" from the options. (There is also a "words
beginning with" option if that is more useful to you).
You'll be taken to a results page that tells you how many word contain
your word, (based on a search of several sources) and then lists them
for you. For instance, there are a total of 11 words similar to
"Cushite", if you get my drift.
Note, though, that although some proper nouns will be included, many
will not. I'm afraid there's no easy way to get around that
bottleneck.
I hope this is the information you need, but if not, please let me
know by posting a Request For Clarification. I'll be glad to assist
you further.

Do you have any ideas for performing the same kind of search for
proper nouns?
Is there a way to use google to search for strings instead of words?
e.g. *ass* would find "ass" in other words . . .
Allwords is very helpful, so that's a good start. I'm still concerned
about city/town names, so I would appreciate any leads you could give
me on that. If you can't don't sweat it too much.

I'll look into it (I have some ideas) but it will probably be later
today before I can get back to you, so hang tight...

Hello again.
Here's a tool for the geographic names, but I warn you, there's an
awful lot of them.
Go to:
http://gazetteer.jrc.it/
and select "United States" from the country chart (or you can pick any
other country that you want...there's also an option a bit further
down the page for an "EU Only" selection).
Type in your word of choice in the "TownName full or partial match"
box.
Select the "anywhere" button
Select "Go".
And yer off and running. Here's what the first hundred results look
like when I searched on your three-letter posterior:

The analyze example is exactly why I need this list. I am going to
have two arrays (lists) of words.
One of them will include words that should always be deleted.
The other will include words that should be deleted only when they're
on their own.
BTW, I discovered that the OED online will allow searches with
asterisks, so for regular words, that's the best source.
Thank you for you help!

Adamx,
Thanks for the kind rating, and I'm glad the commenters and I were
able to assist you. Good luck in your project.

P.S. I *really* did know why analyze was bounced...I guess I'll have
to start adding winking emoticons to my comments.
