Hi, Pink!

I'm going to be away from home for a week, and I need to be able to
access the Internet with my laptop without having to subscribe to some
service with a monthly fee.

Can you find for me such a service? The more inexpensive, the better.
It doesn't need to have a toll-free number; I have a calling card with
a very inexpensive rate.

A service which offers a free or inexpensive trial period, from which
I then have to unsubscribe, would not be my first choice, but it would
be acceptable if there is no other option.

[I would like at all costs to avoid AOL if possible; I used to have
that service, and those b******s destroyed my operating system when I
tried to uninstall their software, requiring me to do a complete
reformat of my hard drive and re-installation of all my software.
GRRRR.]

Thanks,

ace

Hello again, Ace!

There are very few free dial-ups still out there. I found several that
want you to sign up for credit cards or other services in exchange for
dial-up internet access. I have not included links to these, since
that sounds like the sort of deal to avoid.

Although the freebies are no longer plentiful, there are several
options that are a heck of a lot cheaper than AOL. Below are a few
options I've found. I hope one of these will be suitable.

===============================================

Here is a service that is free if you use less than ten hours of
online time:

"Each month you get 10 hours FREE
 $1 for each additional hour will apply
 The maximum you may be charged per month is $10 for unlimited
Internet.
 Reliable & fast connection. Now 2x faster
 1 Free e-mail. POP3 and Web Mail
 No ads, no banners, no Pop-ups"

Access 4 Free

===============================================

For $9.95 per month, there's Juno Platinum:

"Now you can get...
- Reliable connections
- Fast page loads
- Instant Messaging compatibility
- Personalized start page with Stocks, News, Weather,
  Sports and more
All for half the cost of AOL.

Platinum accounts also include an email address that you can use on
any computer anywhere with E-mail on the Web."

Juno also has a "10 hours per month free" account. You can sign up

PeoplePC Online is $9.95:

Ten bucks, no contract, no commitments:

Hyperconnections

===============================================

Here you can get up to 20 hours per month for $6.95:

Dialup4Less

===============================================

Here's a service for $5.95 per month:

Access4Less

They have a $4.95 "special" if you sign up through this link:

Another $5.95 service:

QuickConnect

My Google Search Strategy:

Thanks for asking for me by name! I hope your travels will go
smoothly.
