I'm going to visit Lake Tahoe, and I would like to know what the
weather is like right now, and what sorts of attractions, diversions,
and entertainment options are available.

I am NOT interested in:
movie theatres
casinos / gambling
Las Vegas-style shows
(unless they involve 70's and 80's hard rock bands ;-)
skiing (normally I *would* be interested, but I am trying for rest,
relaxation, and recuperation, rather than for abusing my body by
sweeping snow, rocks, and trees down the mountainside)

I might be interested in plays or musicals, sightseeing at natural
attractions, and deep-tissue massage by extremely burly men.

Thanks,

ace

Wow, I envy you, Ace! My cousin and her husband used to live at Lake
Tahoe, and the photos they had of the area were breathtaking!
Unfortunately, they moved before I ever got around to visiting.

Regarding the weather, it is apparently quite cool at this time of the
year:

Apparently the entertainment aspect of Tahoe is mainly Vegas-y and ski
resort-ish. I have gathered information about a few lower-key things
that you might enjoy.

"North Lake Tahoe Historical Society

The Society maintains a historic park on the lake which was for
hundreds of years a Washoe Indian campsite: the Gatekeeper's Cabin
Museum; Watson Cabin Living Museum; Ellen Attardi Research Library and
the Edmund S. Barnett Building/Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum.

The Gatekeeper's Museum houses an eclectic collection of Lake Tahoe
history, including photographic collections, oral histories and
transcriptions, newspapers, court ledgers, maps and subdivisions,
books, magazines, letters, clothing, artifacts and furniture.

The Watson Cabin Living Museum is housed in a 1909 log cabin, listed
on the National Register of Historical Homes as the oldest house,
built on site, in Tahoe City. It is an example of how the pioneer
families lived at the lake in the early years of the 20th century and
it contains furnishings, kitchen appliances, toys, china, linens and
decorations from the period of 1909 to 1930.

The Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum houses a world-class
collection of 800 Native American baskets representing tribes from the
plains to the Southwest. West, Northwest Canada and Alaska: 100 Native
American dolls; artifacts; examples of weaving materials and
techniques and a comprehensive library of Native American Basketry and
History."

One of the most useful places to find info on Lake Tahoe is a site
called "Tahoe's Best." Below are a few links from that online guide to
all things Tahoe.

Here's a nice list of art galleries and studios:

Places to get a massage (burly men may or not be available):

(Note: when I went to the Tahoe's Best site, there was a 404
file-not-found at the top of each of the pages linked above. This
apparently is a banner that doesn't load; the rest of the page looked
fine when I visited.)

There are several hot springs day spas in the Tahoe area. I don't know
whether you've ever soaked your troubles away in natural mineral water
from hot springs, but I can highly recommend it (unless you have a
medical condition which would make it inadvisable.) There is nothing
quite like a long, leisurely soak in a mineral bath. I get tingly just
thinking about it. Here are a few spas you might want to check out:

You know what sounds heavenly to me? A hot air balloon ride!

"Fly over the shores of Lake Tahoe viewing beautiful meadows and
alpine mountains, then out over Lake Tahoe where you will gaze into
the crystal blue waters for the ultimate in exhilarating experiences.
Flight begins at sunrise and ends ~3 hours later. During that time
you'll experience a sensational balloon flight as well as a
pleasurable boat cruise back to shore. Our 1st class celebration
includes a champagne and orange juice toast along with great fruit,
french pastries, cheese & crackers, beverages and a number of other
amenities & souvenirs."
