I'd appreciate a source for news that was reported for June 10, 1913,
related particularly to Bournemouth, England. This would be in order
to compile some kind of news sheet for my mother's upcoming ninetieth
birthday -- so I don't have to make things up. (If I get mere links,
the job is worth less than if I get access to particular stories.)
Thanks.

"I'd appreciate a source for news that was reported for June 10, 1913,

Are you looking for a particular newspaper or news about Bournemouth,
England dated June 10, 1913 or are you just looking for a possible
source (e.g. institution, library, news archive, etc.) of news
articles published on that date?

I wrote to someone at a current paper there, and got no answer. Don't
know what was being published in 1913. If there was a Bournemouth
daily news source, and if it is archived, I would be happy to receive
a reliable usable link to that archive. If there are other tidbits a
researcher has access to, such as weather, local happenings, beach
reports, that can be gathered for my use, I would be overjoyed to
receive them.

Dear ogle1913-ga
Do you live near London? I can direct you to a newspaper collection
where you could view yourself:

The Bournemouth Daily Echo
Dates 20 Aug. 1900-30 June 1958

The Bournemouth Graphic
Dates 22 May 1902-12 Feb.1926

You can also apply for copies by post if you identify the specific
paper you require.

Would this information answer your question?

I need to do this electronically, so to speak, because of geography
and because time is getting short. Thanks.

ogle1913-ga,

What a delightful search! Visiting the seaside, even by computer, is a
nice way to spend time.

The Hantsweb site includes a listing of all Bournemouth newspapers
http://www.hants.gov.uk/library/newsplan/dors-glou.html#bournemouth
They are housed at the Bournemouth (Springbourne) Public Library
http://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/leisure/Libraries/default.asp
Bournemouth@bournemouthlibraries.org.uk

You may be able to get a librarian there to email copies of the
headlines from the newpapers.

There are some other sources that you may want to take a look at.

They have many pages dedicated to photos and descriptions of
Bournemouth at the turn of the century, just click on one of the
topics in the Themes section at the upper left of the page.

The Daily Echo and the The Dorset Echo have a space on their site that
is dedicated to Bournemouth.

This is from a book, A Century of Bournemout which might make a nice
birthday gift and also give you more sources for your news sheet.

Hope this helps you to make the birthday special. If your mom is
anything like mine the book would bring back many wonderful memories.

A pretty cool site called British Pathe features old newsreels, some
of which date back to almost the turn of the century (the 19th-20th
century, that is). They have 81 newsreels with stories about
Bournemouth. Might be worth a look:
